Meh, a bunch of wankery. Doesn't sound like the first album. Needs reverb. Doesn't sound brown, probably using a cheap instrument cable. I heard an open string ringing out during the fast stuff, crummy technique. He never uses a neck pickup. Doesn't he know how to play rhythm? Sounds like a an SM57, those aren't that good for recording guitar. Sounds bland, should have used a greenback and g12-65 in an X pattern. His pickups need potting. <burp>

I am not 100% convinced this is even really EVH playing?
whoever it is is using a line 6 POD here.
It could be a guy like Mark Abrahamian that can sound just like him
I have heard a few guys sound just like him

Yeah, by 1984 he was clearly mailing it in and non-evolving as a player. But I still like to listen to his clips 30 years later and remind people of this.

I don't know, the Hagar era had some cool hooks and song writing and some cool leads. I would give him a few albums there as well... into the mid 90's though, total mail in.

I also think the soundboard clips sound great. He's noodling around and trying shit out.. who hasn't done this? There is no production here, just a dude rippin some ideas.
