Ok. 2203. Nice. I have one of those. Interesting. Hopefully you are known for hyperbole and this isn’t honeymoon talk. Can’t wait for some YouTube demos, although the guys above might feel differently lol.
lol.. I try not to oversell and be honest. For me, this is a good one. If your a modern metal guy youre probably not going to like the top end.. or an open voicing that allows you to hear the difference between guitars etc. Its not going to sound like an engl or whatever

Eagerly waiting for a good Samaritan to put this in a 100W 1959 NMV and upload a demo clip. That way I'll know what to write to Santa 😇
The evo mod was superb in the 1987x. I have some sound clips. Evo was surprisingly different to the mr scary. I am very excited to see how this plays out with this one.

Ive been keeping my eye out for a cheaper 1959, 1987x, or clone/mod. If I do ill share. But youre probably better off getting that jcm 800/2203x sound.

Those plexis with an evo imo killed it in metal. Imo.

I'm gonna put one of these into a 5150 III 100S and get like 6+ gain stages. It's gonna be amazing. Actually... can you stack them? Plug one into the tube socket of another and then plug that into an amp? Might open a wormhole

I currently have Mr. Scary in my #34-modded 2204 (one might question my sanity why I'd do that) connected to Suhr RL. It gave extra saturation so I wouldn't have to turn the Master past 7 where sludge starts pouring in.

Tempting to just move it temporarily to my 1959 and experiment, but as we all know, procrastination is the weakness of humankind :)

No. I just want to try and get the brashness from my 2203. I love that Slash tone. I’ll save the high gain dreams for the next amp mission.

I want one ! I'll wait a bit for the honeymoon period to pass and get a more definitive review. If this sounds really like early VH and AFD combined then it's a no-brainer for all 2203 owners IMHO...

I like my Mr Scary but this seems more up my alley

Sounds like it’ll be brighter and more aggressive

That is def the goal.. Lynch is really all about warmth these days so I find the Scary just extends the tone of the amp, doesn't tighten and brighten so this one in a 2203 or 04 with some alnico II pups should do the AFD thing. I love that tone for the playing on that album. Slash may have been on smack but they definitely got the best out of him on that album. I don't think he plays a bad lead really. So many of his solos have parts you can sing and that is always the sign of a good lead.

I have a Legendary Tone Hot Mod EVO V2 tube module installed in this Stiff 90-AD 50 watt amp head (made by Tony Krank). It's basically a 2 channel tube amp head with a JCM 800 style overdrive channel & clean tube channel. Having the Hot Mod EVO V2 definitely gave it more gain, sustain, and compression without having to use an overdrive or distortion pedals. The amp head originally had a Vox transformer when I bought it off of Reverb advertised as a 50 watt amp, but it had low wattage output. . I had my amp tech install a Pacific Audio transformer for a 50 watt Marshall amp head. More wattage output, better tone, and is voiced to how I wanted the amp to sound.

I would love to hear the Caswell #39 that the OP bought. I'm interested in the Mr. Scary Mod and Caswell #39 mod

Mine arrived.

Its very good. I am using jcm800 2203x reissue. I think where this will absolutely shine is the plexi.

It is a killer sound with everything engaged or nothing engaged. This is making me want to get a splawn for some reason something i have never owned.

I recorded some stuff. My one video is ok. Songs are rough ill try again after work tomorrow.

Edit: fixed typos and making a note. And just to clarify the splawn comment. I am unaware of similarities with splawn. Im just excited for marshall sounds.

This Caswell Edition has my attention. I currently have the v2 hot mod, which I really like, but in true rig-talk fashion I cant help but want to try this one to see if its any better :ROFLMAO:

Agree. A pedal push felt / sounded better to me

First gen hot mod was totally diff. I had one. Was cool but really unusable past a certain level and a bit of a wild beast. You cannot judge the legendary tones ones from that experience. That's like saying, I had a Mustang once, wasn't for me when talking about an Alpha Romeo.

When you turn bite switch on do you get a sound that seems out of place?

I have a sound thats almost like in the ballpark of a loose instrument cable or jack. I am messing around more to see if it is my guitar or something else.

do you mean out of phase? no, I'm not getting that when engaged. I'm not using a ton of gain on the dial or the thump so I don't need the additional bite. does it do it on all your guitars?

I was skeptical before I tried this one.. and for me, the pedal sits on top of the tone and this is more part of the inside. If that makes sense

No like the pot was bad.

Knock on wood i think it is my old strat with duncan slash pickups. Last time it was serviced they replaced the volume pot. Im 99% sure it needs everything replaced. Im not hearing the sound with my other guitar.
