I will probably pick one up but the mod I tried on one of my amps was hella bright. Same with the 34. It's awesome and does that thing but then when you realize it is just that ONE thing and you aren't recording... it's not something I wanted to play everyday. Sounds great though and no question that AFD tone is one of the greatest recorded electric rock guitar tones in the history of the genre.

Yep, this is something that lots of people who pine after those tones don't "get"

It's very, very bright and brilliant which gives it a ton of texture and cut on those recordings

But it's not going to sound like that out of the box in your man cave - in fact it's probably going to be grating to the ears of most people who are used to the smoother, more polished modern sounds

It's also really revealing with your technique because of all that treble

Every HotMod that has existed or will exists needs to stack up to insurrections hotmod/2204 clips. I yet to hear any yet, but look forward to them.

Ordered one after I got the email.

The hotmod evo 2 adds a big bass bump and good amount of gain. This thing having a thump switch, different voicings. Im betting it will be killer.

100%. If you want to see how you will sound with the mod, step on a wah and dial your tone pot back a bit to where it is still a bit squawky. Sweet Child O Mine riff sounds really great on the neck pup because of all that cut.

Just installed mine and holy shit if they didn't make it sound exactly like my AFD.. all the characteristics of the .1uf/10k cold clipper with the swirly presence and artifacts are there...I wonder how they did it. I'm keeping the amp gain at 7 to maintain some of the bright cap in the mix. Damn, if you like the early van halen nasty top end splatt and the afd tone, this will do it.

do you mean the slash signature marshall?
or are you saying you had one of those treasures to compare?

mine is on its way... im a bit sour.
immediately when it came out, i put in my order no delays speaking to david.
few weeks and were chatting during this time, friendly. i get a heads up in the next few days shipping.
to my surprise a youtuber received his early.
mine was forgotten and not dropped off. so now i get another week waiting.

im probably the only one who is frustrated and this was probably just the straw breaking the camels back.

i missed out on an omega granophyre and a youtuber got it instead. im not one to judge but they were unloading like 120k worth of stuff because of restructuring and bad life. like either let us mere mortals grab it when we have free funds. or dont flip it to make a buck after you finish.

on the plus side i did get a gz hellion, fair price. great condition. (the things i can control on this amp its nuts. not so much crazy controls. but what i can control i can do way more. EQ im not guessing if it added or cut. you hear and feel it clear as day, it just cuts. the range on NFB man that is what vintage to modern should always incorporate. it is incredibly quiet. i didnt get it for its perfect organic sound or pure raw tone. i got it because it is a gain machine that can get aggressive AF, or i can put NFB full left and have something that sings powerfully. everything in between. this is the low end usuable punch and girdth i thought was mythical. that said. I spend 1k more on mesa*. and the gz was about 2k more that i intended. so the all access ceriatones, moleculars, splawns. or hell all the scumbacks 55 cones i want. i need to wait on all my plans.

*I had to return a new mesa was pretty much broken. gc would not apply or honor previous discount because the event ended. i sort of get it. but i was pissed spending extra 1k.

plexi sounded 1000x better with these mods but the damn thing just stopped working. turns out it was NOT my fault. but yeah it was frustrating. and again gc would not honor event discount. so ive kept my eye out (leaning toward 1959 or ceriatone all access though).

i fried my first pedal, expensive noise gate. replacement, the mk 3 of pedal, not as good as mk 2.
i dont know if old guitar is combusting, creaking. or what. but new slash pickup in bridge sounds great. everything else the tech touched sounds like its a chalk board being scratched.

my headfirst amp that I love. it has been having issues for a bit. good news is i think its power tubes. bad news it doesnt seem to have easier access for biasing and voltage readings and such. no idea what to do yet. but it will cost. and its taking its toll because i was using this thing daily. it sounds like i am runing 1 power amp tube now.... and that its turning into a rice crispys cereal with those sounds.

i digressed more than i planned but yeah. i got frustrated. heres to next week. maybe ill have my scumbacks too and everything will be cool/bygones be bygones.

woah... that was quite a bit of processing. Yeah, I think he may have sent out some to "influencers" first but I was in the first batch to go out. No demos on youtube at all. To answer your question, yes I have the AFD amp. I'm really shocked how authentic this mod sounds. I would love to know how they did it. Using the bite switch is basically the #34 mod. I just use the mod without the bite or thump engaged into a stock 2203 with the gain on seven. It's damn near perfect hard rock tone with all classic marshall characteristics dialed away by most mods. The mod can do van halen and demartini tones too so its versatile. What are you putting it in?

nice.

i am really looking forward to this. i was really surprised what sorts of tweaks happened to voicing and gain structure. mr scary vs evo was interesting enough tis is going to be killer.

Let me know what you think when you get it!

I already thought the Mr Scary is pretty damn perfect for giving an 800 the same tone but that much more. Looking forward to this one giving me that early Lynch ( don't forget he had the 39 too) and AFD tones. Seems like the perfect accessory to a Marshall for those tones vs modelers or buying an amp with the mod. I love that these things are reversable in 30 seconds and out of the circuit if you don't want them. So this mod, is it not 36/39 vs 34? They are all sort of in the same vein but 34 I believe was the brightest when i tried it in one of my amps. Whatever they have done, they've figured it out and improved on the soldano design. You can invest in a good 800 or clone and add these to taste. Love what they are doing and hope they think of more fun ways to change the voicings. Probably get a ton of orders for a chewy "Facelift" mod.

Influencers will peddle anything. I take their opinion of it with a grain of salt.

Can you throw up a quick clip of this thing in your amp?

Installed in which amp?

I would love to know how different this one is vs your lynch mod... ive never tried one of these before but agree with your assessment. This thing sounds better than a pedal. Its wider and fuller than using a pedal in front of the amp. It sounds like its part of the amp- like a traditional mod....hard to explain. I'm going to try to put up one of my shitty iphone videos when I get some time this weekend.

Ok. 2203. Nice. I have one of those. Interesting. Hopefully you are known for hyperbole and this isn’t honeymoon talk. Can’t wait for some YouTube demos, although the guys above might feel differently lol.

Exactly what I hear with the Lynch mod. Yes you have to be careful how high you set it and where you set your preamp vol ( 4 to 6 for me) but where a pedal kind of sits on top or narrows the perceived thickness of the amp, this just gives you more but in the frequencies that the particular mod was designed to emphasize. I really like it.

Eagerly waiting for a good Samaritan to put this in a 100W 1959 NMV and upload a demo clip. That way I'll know what to write to Santa 😇

I'm gonna put one of these into a 5150 III 100S and get like 6+ gain stages. It's gonna be amazing. Actually... can you stack them? Plug one into the tube socket of another and then plug that into an amp? Might open a wormhole

Ive read you might need attenuation for the NMV.. or it will be loud loud by the time you round off the high freq and balance the sound. not sure tho
