Really cutious how this would sound in my DSL
It will sound good. I dont want to oversell this or undersell this. Imo they are all great and usable not a bad one in the lot.

Mr scary when I played as a comparison today. I was remarkably surprised. I did not remember it as fondly as the others.

But to your comment. Any of these will work great. They are miles better than pedals making amps sing, adding gain/headroom, and really opening up your amp. Dsl is no exception.

best i can do for now.
the first two links are the same song. i just inserted 1987 guitars in different spots/times. the song is mine i got some advice on here for recording. this was my work in progress.
the last song is someting i recorded exagerating what is making the 1987 pop when i turn on that bite switch.

i took some videos too. i dont talk in them. i set the gain low switches off. play a few riffs. turn on a switch. repeat. adjust gain maybe 4-5 times. i did one video with mr scary too just to try and hear similarities. i could not aby them though. if you want ill send the link. they are helpful references too but meh. i keep going overboard on recording stuff.

if it sounds like shit let me know. i dont wnt to do a disservice. im just not great at recording yet.

I only do iphone recordings so I wouldn't know how to critique it... how does it compare to the lynch in your opinion?

It's hard to tell from those clips because there is a lot going on competing with the guitar. But it doesn't sound bad by any means and I'd still like to see a demo of it in, bypassed, switched in, then the various switches.

That is funny to me usually I had someone tellijg me play in a mix or else you can't tell how something really sounds or cuts.

I thought that was bullshit. I dislike in the mix. Its a reminder shit can and is edited alot post production. I want to hear straight up guitar.

So looks like I shouldn't have doubted. Here is one good one at least some of the parts. I appreciate playing through a few chords and hearing the notes and whether there's clarity. I appreciate hearing if palm muting spunds like muffled, sludge, early metal or very modern. Whether it works with boosts.

Ill see if I saved the test and ps. Anything I mention with alnico 2 is shit.i tested it it seemed off. I think the dude that replaced my pot fucked up its not a great connectjon.

The mr scary Lynch?
Honestly when I plugged in. I did not expect it to be so incredibly similar.

Im still messing but I would say at this point. There are some very noticeable sounds that yoy cannot get on mr scary. There are some sounds from mr scary that I cannot really replicate on 1987 but there us a pretty completely different alternative (e.g. crank gain and bass. Mr scary holds together and 1987 gets this overdriven sound that is really bad ass imo).

I tied matching the gain levels of the isolated appetite tracks .. just a short doodle

Ok I am hearing it here and in both your clips. There is a notch in the mids but the tone is still juicy. I don't think it cuts quite like the modded amp but close enough for that ' thing"!

agreed and i think there is a lot more range here. som of that is on us as users. well maybe just me.

i

remain super focused on the bass being added. very very pleasant to my ear.
I could have been more extreme with eq. i ended up dialing it back.
i could have used single coil or PAF i did not.
and i these scumback speakers are pretty new for me. so that is a drastically new thing to my ears that i am not used to. i might have shied away.

god help me. i just demoed a dr z ems. ima need a picture of the english flag and big. im almost positive if you do these things you become a naturalized citizen.

This is the general tone people are after when they think of that mod. This clip is from someone who had Caswell do the 39# to their JMP. So if you are adding bass to compensate, the whole point is less bass more strident mids poking through:

i, not an expert on this mod. i dont know what the bass should do, the thump switch engaged normally is prominent, there is no special dialing to get what sounds like a bass guitar shadow accompyment. usable bass mind you. while still getting all the adjustments to mids.

ill aslo mention again here. this thing seems to make the eq must more reactive and dymanic. hella more pops out at you.

yeah, its real close to the amp mod for sure.. again, I only have the gain on the mod at about 1030 or 11.. I haven't even tried to use a lot of gain and engage the switches, yet. I will try to match gain levels with my AFD next, to see what's possible. Overall though, for 300 bucks, you can get a mod no one is really doing these days. I have a feeling Dave and Caswell are going to do a collab in the future.. as long as dave doesn't f up the nfb and add depth etc, it might be cool.

This mod has thump though. I assumed thump resonance depth were all the same?

Man that sounds good.

That first clip... I can hear "Don't Damn Me" crunch flavor there 👍

Some more clips starting to trickle out.. this one compares the various mods in a 2204. You can hear that thing in the 1987x mod but obviously won't be spot on like the amp. Still good though. I like what i hear in terms of a tight gain mod for a 2204
