Yeah, I agree with you! I almost had a deal lined up to trade my UL + cash for a Herbert, but it just fell through a few minutes ago. :(

If someone asked me what amps I wanted the most right this second, I'd say either a Soldano SLO or a Diezel Herbert. But that changes quite a bit. LOL

You better go make that deal "un-fall-through" man! If there's going to be another SLAB soon, I'd much rather play through a Herbie than a SLO (not to knock the SLO, but the Herbert is much more up my alley)!

And I really did like the Budda; I was almost considering picking up a Superdrive 18 as a compliment to my Guytron, but I just can't make the funds work out right now. Trying to do too many things at once tone-wise, so I figured I'd just give up all together and be happy with what I have. I have the unfortunate habit of buying awesome sounding equipment that nobody has ever heard of with zero resale value, unfortunately, or I'd trade in my Nomad and G&L ASAT Deluxe toward something new.

Chris, I nearly thought the Landry was going when I saw this title.

I'm into Vox tone, so I'm probably way off base here, but IMO FWIW:

I second the Marshall hand wired 1974x, this thing sounds amazing - this is the Marshall tone I could get used to!

Do either of these hit the tone you want?

What does the VHT really provide that the Landry doesn't?

Those both sound great!!! But I can get similar type of "vintage" tones from the Landry using the clean channel with the gain up or the distortion channel without the high gain mode. No, it's not exactly like a NMV Marshall, but I mean, it's close enough for me.

It's the super heavy rectifier type of tone I can't get. I know the SLO doesn't do that either, but that's an amp I've always wanted to try. lol...

Maybe you need a Herbert dude. I think you do :)

I was waiting for someone to say this. I say do it.

Not to derail and speaking of slab, has anyone heard from Casey Cor lately? Wondering how he's doing?

NOTICE!!!!!

Nobody mention Herbert ever again in this thread! You're all rubbing it in and it's just not cool. Everyone is BANT! Doh...

I don't think you should get a... well, the unmentionable amp you mentioned above. You should get that three-channel Diezel amp with the ridiculous amounts of low-end and gain. You know, the one you want to get.

Yeah.

Yeah.
I have gas for that amp. The gas is so severe, that I am actually in balloon shape right now, and typing with my toes.

I've never played a H-bert before. That would be nice if you could get one before the next SLAB, Chris!!!

I like the Landry much more than the VHT UL!

Though the clips are YouTube compressed and Chris has used different guitars for both clips, the difference is clearly audible.
Only their clean sounds directly compared to each other, the VHT sounds hard & cold, while the Landry sounds warm & smacky with more chime on top.
Comparing the rhythm & lead tones (which obviously just differ in the amount of gain, not too much in texture) the VHT shure isn't 'bad sounding', but the Landry is much more organic, the tone's density is higher, nonetheless details at higher gain settings come more concrete and it's sound simply is sweeter and more agile. If I'd have to choose between both, I'd even pay 1,000 bucks more for the Landry

I'm uploading a video I just made this morning where I go back and forth between the UL and Landry. I'll post a link in here as soon as it's ready (probably an hour or two.) The tone is all muddy and muffled because of my camera, so don't expect anything too great. Also, you can't hear the "magic" stuff in each of these amps unless you hear them in person.

Chris

Stop it! You're not helping my GAS.

I did not think the amp switch took enough time to take away from what you are doing. Between youtube and the speakers on my lap top they sounded a lot alike over here. But I could hear some of the the differences.
thanx :)

LOL! If it helps, I should point out that the Landry really doesn't have alot in common with the "typical" Bogner Ecstasy or Shiva tone. It's quite a bit different. So if the Bogner tone is your thing for sure, you may or may not dig the Landry.

:D

No that doesnt help! :gethim: :D Thats a big reason why I want one. I have Bogner thing covered and I wouldnt say the Bogner tone is my tone all the time. I do like the Bogner thing but like more classic Marshall styled amps for other things also but I want the classic Marshall thing with a good clean channel hence the Landry gas.

I agree. Im also thinking alot about recording. Im thinking the Landry would be great in a mix with a Bogner.

As a side note having nothing do with the tone, and this is me being really stupid nip picky............ I really think the Landry logo is weak. If I were Mr Landry I'd think about redesigning it.

Really? Why is that? To me, it's just like Marshall, Bogner, Egnater, etc... Just the makers last name in "script." (or is that what you don't like about it - not being different?)

I love the cosmetics on the Landry. I think it looks sharp.

Its the size... too small for how tall the head is. And I think there is a probably a better script font that would be a bit heavier that get him that old school vibe. I dont know its just the artist in me, I design for a living so I probably pay waaaaaay to much attention to that crap.

But don't get me started on misspelled words, improper grammar, software that's too complicated to use, etc... I pick apart everything when it comes to that stuff.

I bet my posts drive you crazy.  The logo isnt a huge deal and isnt horribly bad. I would do somethnig different if it were my amp but its not so thats my worthless .02

I just paid my LS100 off and am getting it this week.

Awesome and congrats! I hope you like it as much as me. Report back when you get it!
Thanks! Will do, it should be here Thursday.Based on the clips from Bill and yourself,I know I'm going to like it.

If not for spell check I would not be able to read my own post ....
Is there some kind of grammar check, etc. ?

The "heavy" clip that he did is honestly the tone I've been chasing for ages.
