i just punched things on one at a time so you can hear the effect each device has on the overall tone-rocktron rack compressor, tc 2290 delay, lexicon pcm 80, and tc 1210 chorus, to build into this enormous sounding clean tone. bummer the eventide is not in the rack because bradshaw said something was wrong with it and is having it serviced, otherwise i would have chucked that in too!

i kicked off the comp and 1210 and hit eggie ch. 4 for a serious dann huff butchering!

i probably should have tweaked the pcm patch so the decays weren't as fizzy on the lead tone, but oh well...it's rock and roll! ps forgive me dann huff for hacking up your tasty runs!

I can't play the clip at work, but being someone who would trade his gear for a snowblower right about now I am jealous looking out your window. :D

Wow, really lush tone there. It sounds amazing!

Can you tell the recording chain?

Pat that sounds AWESOME!!! Nice playin n the tone sounds absolutely huge :)

Awesome Huff tone!

pretty scary how it was in the right ballpark without even trying to tweak any settings. kinda fizzy but that was partly the lexicon being set for clean sounds, and partly the left wet cab being a little crate combo!

the left wet cab is a little crate combo that i just plugged straight into, the middle dry 4x12 is a crate as well; speakers in both are unknown---right wet cab is being fed from a crate monoblock and houses an EV 12L.
so as you can see, i'm not operating with super high end power amp or speaker compliments :D
the next time i'll have the bogner 4x12 for dry and a better left cab...

i put a MXL 990 LD cheapo mic on the left side, a 57 on the dry cab, and a studio projects B1 LD condenser on the right.

i ran the condensers into a mackie mixer to phantom power the condensers, and panned them hard left and right into two channels of my roland VS-880 recorder, and took the 57 and ran it directly into the roland, panned center.

considering how rinky dink a rig i clonked together to do this, i cannot imagine what a *serious* attempt at recording with this rig would produce

:inlove: :inlove:  :boxer: :worship: :rawk:

Pat, what Mackie are you using???

Sounds phenomenal. Would have been better with tons of pentatonic tapping though. Please make a note of this.

just a low end dfx 12. it's more for live use but it still sounds pretty clean.

the 1/4" inputs on the vs-880 are pretty bad for mic level signals, and don't work for phantom mics, so i'll either use the mackie, a dbx 376 tube mic pre, or a little soundcraft/spirit mixer i have to power phantom mics and get good signal to the vs880 inputs.

fwiw, i just discovered some added functions to my roland xpanded version 880 which does vintage mic emulations...57->U87, etc (yeah right... ;) )

Great, great, huge sound!

thanks man!
i really didn't spend a ton of time with each device dialing in a particular sound...zach was on the phone with me coaching me through the navigation of the 2290, and the pcm 80 patch wasn't the best i've ever heard, but for just a quick run through, i thought it sounded pretty awesome sitting in front of it!

oh and that crackling static sound was my moody george L cable bouncing around and causing triboelectric (?) noise.

Wow...totally budget gear and it sounds great. I'm impressed. :)

thank you,

although i will have to give credit where credit is due....Zach is the man who envisioned this insane rig and brought it to fruition. i really do miss the golden rack tone sounds ala tales from the buldge and last of the runaways.

There's some very cool delays/chorus' going on in there Pat. Nice job!

Holy shit does that PCM80 sound freaking awesome!!!!!

The TC1210 was feaking just lush...the 2290 delays were........yeah you get the picture :D

I love the new MPX-1 I scored and imo the verbs are very good but damn that 80

MENTONEMAN OWNS!
