Yeah, combos seem to have that thing going. I`ve used my combo with my 4x12 as well, and they`re two different amps. I also have a closed-back 1x12 cab with an EVM12L. When I hook up the EVM in conjunction with the combo speaker, I get a more "stack"-sounding setup in a small package. Is there a way of running the Antone cab with the Twin?

Well, the Fender only goes down to 4ohm and the two 8ohm speakers installed in the combo equal 4ohms. For some reason, there's still an extension speaker jack, but I don't know if running a 16ohm cab with the combo would work?

Most vintage fenders will tolerate a 100% impedance missmatch either way. Meaning you can run 2ohms or 8ohms without issue.

If you rewired your 212 cab to parallel it would be a 4ohm cab and you could run it with the twin, which would see 2ohms.

What I never did understand was the extension speaker jack on a Super reverb, which is running at 2ohms with the combo speakers....

There is dsl on HC spam thread for $650 right now actually two of them one is $710 though. You could return the twin and be a couple hundred ahead of the game with your 2x12.
;)

I only saw this one. http://acapella.harmony-central.com/for ... ight=DSL50

I am thinking of getting a DSL50 myself in place of my '67 Bassman.

The spam thread on the amp forum.... half way down this page

I just got an email reply from my wife saying "Why don't you just get a Marshall head for that cab you have?" lol... Even my wife is telling me to do that.

Wow :hys: .... My wife has given me very practical gear advice though.

Hey Chris, I know what you mean about the scratchy midrange. I've experienced that as well especially with fender amps. I had a little better luck with the peavey classic stuff as they have a bit more warmth in the midrange. Even the classic 30 will bet you there. However I bet if you ride it out a bit longer with the sig x you will find what you're looking for. I just put some p50's in my Port City cab and am liking the sig x even more. Imagine that. I've also gotten some nice tones with emi GB's and just got a WGS 1265 to check out. I may also try the preamp tube swap that's recommended to smooth things out a bit but I have to say I keep finding a lot of good tones in it. Can't go wrong with a dsl 50 though. My best tone with a fender clean amp as a base was an old 65' deluxe with a rackmount chandler tube driver.

I totally understand. My wife just got hit with a huge tax bill so I'm selling some of my pa and DJ gear. I just sold an acoustic and a pair of PA speakers. I've been playing my 1x12 combo a lot lately as it sounds decent and is easy and quick to set up. I can usually get a decent monitor mix so it's not a big deal. I have a mod 50 due this week which will go up against the sig x to see which stays. I've only see you play once with your old band and look forward to seeing the new band when I get a chance. I thought your tone with the dsl was really good. You could make worse choices than a dsl 50 head and a peavey classic 30 or delta blues. The peavey would be great for rehearsals as the drive is decent and clean is really nice. Would make a good small gigging combo as well. Oh yeah, this is a decent alternative as well. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=489075 The best thing is, you will still sound good regardless of what you use.

I'm keeping my old Marshall 4x12" cab and my Antone 2x12" cab for future use. Those are two things that I'm NOT selling right away. I'm 99% sure I'll end up with a DSL50 head to sit on top of that Marshall cab at some point in the future. But I'm not done thinking about combos just yet. If it turns out this Fender just doesn't work for me and I return it, I may try to get a closed back combo. I know there are a few out there, but I haven't tried them.

Bogner Shiva
Mesa Stiletto Ace
Peavey 5150

Don't get a 5150 combo, they're as heavy and large as a 4x12 and even harder to get around. I'd rather have a 5150 and 4x12 than a 5150 combo, those just weren't well thought out at all!! Plus, I really hated the way it sounded by itself. Plugged into a 4x12 it sounded great but I think they got the dimensions wrong in the cab space on that combo. (Plus the speakers suck!)

I've heard great things about the other two though.

I've heard from someone else those 5150 combos don't sound that great. That surprises me, since they're closed back and I like the 5150 in general. I know what you mean about the speakers, though.

Hmmmmm.

I had 5150 combo and it does NOT sound like the head. I know JerryP has said in the past that the circuit is different. How much I am not sure. The clean was a lot better but the lead channel did not do anything for me.

I'm not surprised the DSL is still calling your name is all I'm saying

There is a Soldano 2x12 combo on TGP.

I've always been told that Soldano amps are for gay people?

  No it's just combos that are for homo's who cant wag around a cabinet. :D ;)

Yeah I'm not a fan of the 5150 combos, but to each his own. Have you considered a Rect-o-verb combo? Theres some really nice tones in those and this is all coming from a non-recto guy.

Dangit! Everytime I make a comment that could offend you, you're right on it! Sorry David.

PS - I was referring to the purple color. ;)
FYI, my Deca is blue and would probably have angry, jailhouse sex with any other amp you put in front of it. Does that make it gay?

Well... If all I ever did was move it from one side of Madison Square Basement to the other to find the coolest spot for the background on my YouTube videos, it would be fine. But some of us actually get out of the basement! DOH!

Just kidding man... I'm pretty sure you gig, right? You better say yes, because if you don't, I'm all over you!

And by the way, I have "little amp" syndrom right now and you're poking fun at me makes me cry.

Yeah I gig. Not as much as you but hey I just dont play in Madison Square Basement.  BTW that Soldano combo isnt Barney purple but cool black.

I remember a long time ago I ran a stomp box in front of an old, old tweed bassman and it sounded fucking huge! Great metal tones and turn the pedal off and you have bad ass clean tones and great inbetween blues sounds too. hmmm......

Why don't you give me a link already!?!?!?!? Do you think I have time to search all over TGP to find the ad? C'mon mang...

Here you go Mr. Got No Time To Make It To Carbondale or Look Up Amps On TGP :D

You should look at the Traynor YCV50 for a combo. Not expensive really and they rock. I'd change the V30 out of course......
