Were to go after a recto?

I would say Extacy for sure on something that stands out and different! To tell you the truth
all tones mention above I can get from my Randall RM100!! With this amp you can have 3 full channels,
series and parallel effects loops, midi controllable, and easy external tube bias. Plus the option to run
any power tube you want! So I dare you to try one. The most affordable line to get into using all tubes
unless you like low end peavey and such.

A buddy of mine and myself are coming from tripple recto's and lookn' around too. I picked up a Framus Cobra a while ago and completly adore it. The clean tones on that thing, man.. wow. of course the "brutality" tones are there when you want them too, about as raucous as they come as far as I'm concerned. but i still can't believe the clean channel on that thing. My buddy is looking to DAR's Future Breed Machines and so far, it's turning my head too. Good luck on the search!

All the Recto I could ever need. LOL

Check out the world of fully tubed module amps. I use this module in my Randall RM100 amp. It holds 3 of these MODULES at a time. Each one is a channel. There are many different modules available and tweaked to mimic tones from other amp companies. You simply unscrew the thumbscrews you see on each side of the module and it slides out, you can then slide another in. This module has been modded by Salvation. I has a built in gate, 3 way tight switch, switch for Blast(OD), and a switch for Orange and Red channels. Just like a Mesa Recto. This Module line is built and supported by Egnater who has there own modules as well. Check them out!

BigBrewtus, that's pretty friggn' sweet! I saw somewhere that Egnater has another amp building class in the works. That should be interesting.

Code001, I've always heard that the 5150's clean was a bit gritty. Is this true? or is that something that has changed in the III model?

I think the III (Fender) has much better cleans than the I or II (Peavey). It is a VERY different amp all around.

For the price they're going for now it's definately something you want to give a try. Here's an example:

Lots of recommendations that are the polar opposite of a recto.... a VHT UL... really?

If you want something that will have that familiar gritty aggressive tone of the recto, than an Uberschall or Framus Cobra is exactly what you are looking for. THe Uber is a better recto IMHO. THe Cobra has a lot of SLO flavor with a pinch of VHT to my ears. Clean channel is among the best when it comes to high gainers, even rivaling the Herbert's cleans.

Haha! Wow, I had no idea the III was Fender based. Well, shows how much I know!

Having been a recto guy on the same quest, I would say that a Diezel Herbert would sure be worth a try. It's got the bigness, for sure... but in a more refined way. I felt right at home playing one.

If you are willing to go rack check out a Mako Mak4 preamp, four killer channels. That is what ended my amp quest for now. I have been through a lot of amps in the past including a dual rectifier, Diesel Einstein (sounded great, but just not what I was looking for), Wizard Metal (killer but too loud), Peters dual channel (still have it, very agressive), and quite a few others. I have my Mak4 with a Peavey classic 50/50 running stereo into my earcandy 212, and it is just what I was looking for. The Dorado does all the over the top stuff, Makoplex is tits so much fun to play with :inlove: , the crunch channel is a sleeper. It is great with, and without a boost, and the cleans are nice too!!!

Check it out...(fastredponycar has some of the best videos on youtube imo)

I played Boogies for years, the last was a dual-rec phase. Finally came full-circle and went back to Marshalls
Never been happier

I just traded my recto (owned it for seven years) for a Mark IV. While I'm having a lot of fun with the Mark, I do miss the recto chug. didn't read through this all so these might have been mentioned but-

Check out an Uber, Fireball, Powerball, Framus Cobra, Roadster, Tremoverb, 5150, too name a few.

Nothing comes close to that WIDE recto sound. If that is what makes you smile you will probably be dissapointed with most everything on the market. There are many amps with tons of bottomend but none have that recto width.

Ya, I'm really diggin' my RM100. I think they would get alot more love around here if they were less affordable.

Agreed. What will likely happen here is what's happened to most of us!! You'll try a few other amps only to go back to what's familiar and makes you happy while playing with a band. For you it seems a Recto.

It can be a long and expensive path only to realize that you should have stayed with what you loved in the 1st place.

Hate to be the voice of reason in this place of weekly flippers. :D

Road trip idea is a good one that could save a ton of money on disapointing purchases. When I travel, I often look for cool guitar places in the area. Just one trip to a place like LA for a day or two, I'd think you'd be able to track down a ton of cool stuff to check out, and might be cheaper than buying and flipping a bunch of gear.

Oh, and +1 to the Diezel suggestions.
