What’s everyone using for a chorus pedal?

chorus and a whole lot more...

The boss MD500 has several fantastic chorus options.

But for the last year my chorus of choice has been in the fractal units.

Have the Retro-Sonic Chorus bigger box one and the Analogman Chorus with the deep switch. Oh yeah, and the DigiTech anti-chorus Luxe too.
Probably grab the Analogman the most, just beautiful on the cleans.

Thats what makes me the odd ball with all you detuned metal freaks :)
Quite the assumption there buddy.

I 'detune' as much as @DanTravis62 ... Almost never!
E or Eflat, with the occasional drop D string for playing Unchained, Lay it Down or No More Tears, that's it.
Like Dan, I find extremely low tunings often a crutch to make half assed wannabe-heavy riffs appear more heavy. I don't use crutches. Just actual tight and heavy riffing in a regular tuning. 😎

But yeah, since I play a lot of 70's and 80's (inspired) stuff, I do use chorus on higher gain. I mean, in a Maiden tribute, how else are ya gonna do ANY song from SiT or SSoaSS without a good chorus on your non-clean parts?

I approve this message

@70 Mach 1 downtuning is very often used as a crutch for weak riffs my guy

Some of the heaviest metal bands on the planet tune to standard and you wouldn't be able to tell because you aren't thinking about it

If it isn't heavy as hell in standard, it isn't heavy in drop butt AIDS or whatever the zoomers are playing on their dickheadless estrogen machine guitars

I usually play in standard tuning or half step down at most.

If I'm using keyboards, my guitars are in standard tuning even though it's easy to transpose / adjust the tuning on modern keyboards, I don't. Because reasons.

Chorus is one of my favorite effects, coming of age in the late 70s & 80s...I never got tired of chorus. electronic drums (Simmons) or gated reverb on drums. sue me.

edit: except for Phil Collins who over-did it with gated reverb

1. Suhr Alexa. Awesome chorus with lots of options. Its too bad they discontinued it. Apparently, it cost too much to manufacture.

2. Strymon OLA

3. NUX Rivulet

4. NUX analog chorus

I like using the MXR Mini Chorus in front of my amp sometimes like Richie Faulker who pretty much keeps his on all the time for his tone. It really gives my that Zakk 80s vibe when I want it.

For me , this one seemed to not play well with higher gain, only cleans. Like a phasing issue; totally neutered my drive tone. Same with the Providence ADC-3 and 4. Sold them both. Absolutely lovely with cleans, not so much with higher gain.
Besides, nowadays, I wouldn't touch anything Providence related due to a certain you know who. 😜😬
Overall I gravitate to the CE-2; I have two lovely vintage black label MIJ originals (one silver screw even).
But other great ones I've tried and still own (except the DOD) for more subtle shimmery cleans;
DOD FX-60, TC electronic SCF, Ibanez CSmini.

For thicker, watery stuff: Ibanez BC9. Cheap, thick, small and true bypass:Mooer Ensemble King, Tone City Angel Wing.

I wanted to love the MXR Analog Chorus (same as Zalk Wylde one), but its bypass is a horrendous tone sucker and this came to light by the foot switchable FX loop of my EVH 5150 III 50W. It darkens the base tone. a lot.

I feel you, the MXR Analog Chorus nails (obviously) Zakk sound and many others on High gain and the 80s clean stuff. IMO it's one of the best sounding Chorus for the price but the bypass and tone suck makes a questionable choice. Many artists still use it but im sure they have some kind of a buffer before or play with brighter amps to overcome tone suck.

I did some extensive A/B-ing as well, and for the price and size, I feel the Mooer is the closest you'll get to a CE-2 (sub $100) with the added bonus of the level control.
A normal (vintage) CE-2 has quite the mid-boost going on, which can be nice sometimes, but the Mooer Level (mix) control lets you tame that a bit; unity gain (=no mid-boost) sits around 3 'o clock on the Level control.

That Ammoon thing was some cheap Chinese thingy with a huge mid-boost, but it neutered your low-end insanely. Sold it the same day I think.

See attached images; on the 2nd pic that little black box is a TB Looper, specifically added to take the sucky buffer of the MXR out of the equation.

Walrus Audio Julia. I have no idea what I'm doing with it (only bought it because I found a cheap used one and had never tried chorus before); so now I just ask AI how to set it to sound like Zakk Wylde then only use it to play the theme from Top Gun.
