What amps are used to make this tone

I find this tone weird and killer . It has a frequency that’s odd to my ear . Pretty killer

Most likely Rectifiers and 5150s...Boosted with a Maxon 808. And maybe also Krankenstein - Also boosted as well (as on the previous record). Those are the three amps associated with this band when they were at their best.

An Ocean Between Us is an absolutely KILLER record.
Phil and Nick used Maxon 808 boosted Krank Revolution, Krankenstien and 5150 heads with EMGs.

The special quality of that sounds all cab to me. I'd guess Mesa 4x12. Has that dry, kind of woody sound.
Baddass tone and riffs. Love the fast chugging thrashiness.
Hate screaming vocals, so much, but gonna check out that band. Love the music. Singing is kind of similar to Machine Head.

Has that Engl sound to me on some parts, like at 1:16-1:26, like a Savage120 or Powerball.

They were using Kranks live at least back then, i remember everyone at hcaf raving about how great their 5150s sounded live, but i had a working pass to ozzfest that year and took pics of theirs and others rigs to show it was actually Kranks.. and people still said it was 5150s :dunno:

They were definitely using Kranks for a period of time in the studio and live as well. But they were also using 5150 heads in the studio and rectifier heads earlier in their career. The strange frequency that I believe Techdeth is hearing is actually a 5150 boosted with the amps mids dialed up around 5 or 6. That's the upper midrangey honk many try to avoid with the peavey 5150s, but it can sound aggressive and cutting in the right context...but yes, a little "odd".

i always thought that honk was the mid sweep or whatever they have that guys say can be tricky to dial in. i gotta grab a rev1 for nostalgia purposes if anything, they've gone up quite a bit though lately, not finding them for $5-600 anymore

Listening to the vid it sounds like 5150's boosted with OD808's to my ears. Alot like early Killswitch Engage tone and then they layered in Dual Recto's/Framus amps and whatnot to fill out the bottom end..

you know its funny, i remember watching headbangers ball with my bandmates and gushing over AILD and a bunch of those bands productions, now i listen back and think it sounds beyond horrible

Boosted Randall Ultra XL MTS module according to the Ultimate Metal forum, which is a pretty reliable source for that era of music.

I feel like maybe it’s the Krank then . I know the other 2 amps will . It’s an nasally frequency but I like it

The only Krank I ever tried was the Chadwick 2 channel and it sounded great.

All you guys need to get your ears checked. Its a Mesa Mark 2C+.
