thanks guys, I'll definitely be checking some of this out. Based off another thread, sounds like I need to get the new Whitesnake to know what NOT to make it sound like!

White Zombie - Astro Creep 2000
Production-wise, about as close to perfect as it gets. to my ears at least.

Type O Negative - October Rust
Nothing sounds quite as lush, large, heavy, and well-written while at the same time being absolutely out of control with reverb, delay, and chorus. beautifully organized sonic chaos.

Mazzy Star - So Tonight that I may see
Nothing I've ever heard has the strange, dark vibe and vocal sound with that analog reverb sound. LOVE it.

Bjork - Vespertine
All of her stuff sounds awesome, but this one in particular happens to be my favorite.

Kylie Minogue - Fever
It's sparkley pop, but better. Listen to the "la la la's" on the "can't get you outta my head" and you'll hear parallel 5ths above. Listen to the sequencing on "fragile". etc. great pop disc. great sounds.

Damn Gene I'll give ya credit for going against the grain here :D

October Rust......Loved that album but the guitar tones were hmmmmmmmmmmmmm not too good and I dont really get caught up in that stuff as much as others.

For production any Jam / Lewis production to keep with Gene's direction and Rain by Madonna.

for me its

Eric Johnson - Venus Isle

Dream Theater - Awake

Incubus: Make Yourself & S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
Led Zeppelin II

Pretty much every Rush album...

Rain is definitely awesome.

The guys who did Kylie's best work (Light Years, Fever)
Richard Stannard - Julian Gallagher - Ash Howes: Biffco Productions

they're based in Dublin and they did Enya's Watermark, and U2's Elevation. not exactly shabby albums, production-wise either.

My favorite sounding albums are ones that sound like a band playing in a room together. So very live sounding, some mic bleed, etc. So lots of stuff from the 60s and 70s would qualify. One that I was just listening to today that has that vibe is the first Gov't Mule record.

oh man, "dirt" has some of the best sounding drums evar!

no one has mentioned MBV's Loveless yet? Everyone seems to love that albums sound.

not an album, but a song - Scorps - Sails of Charon

I like the "perfection" of Foo Fighters - In your honor, but my favorite production on an album would have to be Alterbridge - Blackbird. Listen to Come To Life, the song is just so huge sounding and blows you away.
