Its just funny that for a guy that went to Harvard, he sounds pretty stupid..

The liberal elite are made-up of people like this. They look down their noses at the lowly commoners from their lofty perches, but they can't understand the most basic principles of life, like cause and effect, risk and reward, etc. They live under the premise that even though communism hasn't worked ANYWHERE it's been tried... that it only failed because the right people weren't in charge. People... like THEM.

Tom gets made fun of for his playing by the weedly weedly fan boys constantly around here so it's no surprise since this board that has a predominantly conservative mindset draws the same fire. I don't share his political views at all but I don't think he's an idiot or slam the guy by calling him a tool. I don't get the vitriol for some who doesn't share your political views or musical tastes.

I'll tell you where the vitriol comes from...

It comes from the fact that people like Tom whine and bitch and cry about life sucking and how bad it sucks... when Tom is LIVING THE DREAM, and doing it in this country that he despises. It comes from the fact that people like Tom point their fingers at religious people and conservatives and say "how dare YOU force your morality on me and others", when in fact they do everything in their power to force THEIR ideals, morals, guilty consciences, priorities on everyone else.

Honestly... I really could give a crap if Tom and people like him get together in their little circle-jerks and piss on the flag and do whatever it is that they do. But when they want to tear-down some of the institutions (FREEDOMS) that I believe made America great and force their brand of change on ME, that's where I start caring. What's the saying about pissing-down someone's back and telling them it's raining???

Obviously you don't know RATM's music very well because their main point through out the music is how power corrupts and corrupt governments keep people down and people need to wake up and realize how they are being fooled into buying into the system. Now yes I agree with that and I agree that our government is VERY corrupt...... what I don't agree with him on is how we handle that.

Explain to me how he's forcing anything on you. From where I sit he's voicing his opinion just like you are.

Because, "I don't agree with them, therefore they are stupid", is considered "intelligent".

Because he speaks out on the obvious corruption of our government.

Ironically Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, or Beck don't hate their country when they speak on government corruption.

Speaking for my self, I dont agree with that. It could be that many people dont see anything in his playing. I think that the guy wrote some cool riffs but nothing that made me think that he was anything special but thats all preference and therefore subjective. I like weedly weedly as well as much as I like music without a hint of weedly in it.

As far as his political views go, after reading about TM and knowing a bit about his "activism" I found alot of it to be contradictory and hypocritical and considering the guy went to Harvard, an institution thats pretty much considered the pinnacle of higher learning, I find it funny that he couldnt see that himself. I dont think thats a hard thing to grasp regardless of ones views..

Now combine the the issues, Musical taste AND political views and consider what TM said, Youre bound to get some backlash.. Forget bound, You EXPECT backlash

Actually... on the corruption deal I agree with Tom.

What I do NOT agree with Tom about is the government's role in forcing social change/programs on the people at the people's cost. Tom's no constitutional conservative. He has a liberal/socialist agenda. I want the government out of my life as much as possible, leaving me alone (LIBERTY!) unless I need to be corrected for violating someone else's personal liberties. THAT is the government's job as defined by the men who founded this country. Tom and I would surely disagree on the government's role in our lives. And for that, I cannot stand him. BUT... I will support his right to stand tall and scream his belief's from the rooftops. It's just when it comes to forcing his idea of government on me that we'll disagree.

Well said, I think that youd be hard pressed to find anyone that has a problem with eradicating government corruption...

You've got it ALL wrong. I applaud people who point-out the corruption of government! But when someone's "fix" for government involves them tinkering with that monstrous machine to bring about THEIR wishes... that's where I get-off the train.

A government should be keeping foreign invaders out, roads paved, drinking water clean, etc. It should NOT be forcing me and others [under penalty of incarceration and/or forceful removal of property] to contribute to its pet (failure) social programs (aka VOTE-BUYING) for the masses.

I'm old school. I believe that if someone wants something they shoud WORK for it and get it themselves. But for many of these bleeding-hearts... they've got this wacked notion that some people CAN'T acheive their dreams no matter how hard they worked. Tell that to the South Asian families that nearly died coming over here in the hold of a cargo ship and built a successfull business here... all without touchy-feely social programs that would have given them a check to sit and watch Oprah and Jerry Springer all day.

Explain to me exactly how he is "forcing" anything on you?

How C-L-E-A-R do I need to make this for you???

His ideas of "social change" and "social justice" brought about by his junkyard dog (aka: the government) forcefully remove money from my pocket and the pockets of other Americans who do NOT subscribe to his views on how a government should be run. He can cry distrust of government all he wants... but he'd LOVE to be holding the leash to that dog and would steer it to his own ends. Or is he just a complete anarchist?

i learned a long time ago to not just judge based on personal politics....and not to burn bridges over it. especially friendships. tom does what he does. on the other side, hannity is cancelling him out. rush does what he does, pelosi cancels his vote out. for every asshole, there's hero...for every hero, is an asshole to someone else.

tom was wheedly wheedlying on the whammy pedal in the early 90's and shredding away on the guitar in the 80's just like me...regardless of his politics. you can't deny that as a guitarist, he's gone pretty far out of the box in regards to his playing and songwriting. personally, if you're going to wank on morello for being an asshole that ruins every song with the octave setting on the whammy pedal, then you'd be hard pressed to not do the same for everyone's current flavor of the decade hero dimebag darrell for doing the same.

see what i did there?

I dont have a problem with your post save the part thats in bold. Ive seen a bunch of people that worked hard and never really went anywhere but thats life. Last I checked, America was called the Land of Opportunity, not the Land of Success; nothing is guaranteed...

Your complete SMUGness notwithstanding... like many working Americans I just want the government out of my life as much as possible... doing the basic tasks that it was chartered with before it became our God and nanny.
