What was it he suggested that would take away from you and give to someone else?

He calls himself a nonsectarian socialist and he talks like one in other interviews. Like I said I don't agree with him at all on his political views but that doesn't make me think he's an idiot. Nor do I think because he takes a very out of the box approach to the guitar that he sucks as a player.

Because of the different ways that he and I view the government's role in our lives, I do think he's an "idiot" when it comes to political things.

But I don't think he sucks as a player at all. He gets some very cool tones/vibes going and I dig them. Out of the non-technical players in rock music... he, The Edge, and Gilmore are the ones I respect the most for what they do on the guitar. Though he's a distant 3rd place for me compared to the other two. I can give credit where it's due. I just wish he'd use his pulpit to shut the hell-up and let his playing do all the talking. Honestly... WHO listens to music or musicians to get their political commentary?

Or, the way I see it: Never! Just another in a long line of people that would rather use gadgetry to make noise than put in the time to actually play well.If talent were a requirement of success, he would be manning the grill at waffle house.

Yeah, I'm down with most of what has been said already. I think Tom is fucked in the head. I don't agree with almost anything he says. While he had his place in Ratm, I always thought his playing to be highly overrated. Piss on him.

He calls himself a nonsectarian socialist and he talks like one in other interviews. That said RATM's lyrics never mention anything about at the point of a gun taking from the haves and giving it to have nots..... it's all about how the "Machine" is corrupt and takes advantage of people.

Like I said I don't agree with him at all on his political views but that doesn't make me think he's an idiot. Nor do I think because he takes a very out of the box approach to the guitar that he sucks as a player.

Yet isn't the "machine" the reason he's made a bunch of $$???  I think that's what most are thinking, just kind of hypocritical. Otherwise he's certainly entitled to his opinion!!

Damn that machine........of course when it comes to making me money, then it's ok. :D

The machine isn't the "free market" it's "the system of lies" in place that allows the corruption of the free market. Big difference. Obviously you guys don't listen to their music or know their lyrics.

It's easier to be angry than it is to understand something.

I've come to see that this is true.

QUITE ironic considering the person/band that is the subject of this thread.

BTW... I'm no corporate shill. I loathe the corporations who use their money to buy elected officials and who receive the monetary benefits of those relationships. They are anything BUT "free market" and they and their pets in Washington are as responsible for our current economical woes as anyone. But somewhere along the line, it became cool to sh#t on the REAL engine that drives this country, the working American who doesn't set policy or head corporations and who DOESN'T sit on his fat ass and demand that he be taken care of. For all of their talk about "looking out for working Americans", neither party has done a hell of a lot to get the hell out of the way and allow the middle-class to live their lives. BOTH parties have become the puppets of big money, and ONE party panders to the leeches whose votes they can buy with a food-stamp debit cards, etc.

The golden-parachute, monied elites are gutting this country from above, while their useful idiots gut it from below in the form of unfunded entitlements. They're all using each other to take-out the guy in the middle who actually makes things MOVE in this country. It will be interesting to watch once that engine is dead (Atlas shrugging) to see how far things move with only the parasites left. Oh... and lest my tirade about the plight of the working class be construed as support for the "poor" unions... it's NOT. The union bosses sold-out the people they claim to represent long ago. Forcing a company to leave the country or go bankrupt and be taken over by the government due to unsustainable benefit packages didn't help the working man in the least.

I love Tom and love Rage against the Machine. Love their politics! Maybe next time I will join them in the streets!!!! And I work in the financial industry, so go figure. :)

And what a huge talent he is as well. Just an amazing guitarist.

tom was wheedly wheedlying on the whammy pedal in the early 90's and shredding away on the guitar in the 80's just like me...regardless of his politics. you can't deny that as a guitarist, he's gone pretty far out of the box in regards to his playing and songwriting. personally, if you're going to wank on morello for being an asshole that ruins every song with the octave setting on the whammy pedal, then you'd be hard pressed to not do the same for everyone's current flavor of the decade hero dimebag darrell for doing the same.

see what i did there?

  Flavor of the decade, surely you can't be serious. I don't see the comparison between one of the best metal shredders of all time and a guy who just runs his hands up and down the strings while stepping on pedals in every song. That's a joke of a post of I ever saw one... You may as well compare Randy Rhoads to C.C. deville.

Every now and then I'll enjoy some RATM but not if I want to hear anything remotely technical on the guitar. For the most part, now that I'm older the whole premise of that band and everything they stand (stood) for seems like a joke and is such a political whine fest I can't stomach it.

Yeah......Obviously..........there are no lies and corruption in the music industry. And I"m not angry at all.

If he were right next to me he would be a good ways up the food chain from waffle house, but he would still have to make sacrifices in order to afford basic necessities, like booteek guitars and amps.(Not to mention eating every now and then.)
In hindsight I should have just said that I dont find him relevant at all, and left my personal opinions about his talent level out of it.

Where did he say anything about despising this country?

Because he speaks out on the obvious corruption of our government.

Ironically Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, or Beck don't hate their country when they speak on government corruption.
None of the three you mentioned have embraced communism.

And none of them embrace true conservatism either no matter how many times they say they do....... that makes them inconsistent just like Morrello.

He can actually play technical stuff well. Just chose a different path for RATM.
