EhHmmm...... :gethim: :gethim: :gethim:

Maybe I shouldn't have wrote that but it's what I feel but that doesn't go for guys who flip a lot of amps for what seems like a side business venture for them. To me the majority of guys on here are all high gain guys, so if you've owned a Diezel, Bogner, Marshall, Mesa, Splawn, modded Marshall type or an SLO and none of them do it for you maybe it's time for a reevaluation.
I feel the same way...find your tone and make some music. I enjoy trying out new amps as much as the next guy, but I also know what works for me and tend to stick with it once I find it...no "flavor of the day" reactions here. I also find that I keep the vast majority of gear that I purchase...most likely because I usually research it a bit first (that said I'm about to have a major sell-off of stuff that never seems to get used since I'm moving in about a month).

RT would be pretty much like watching paint dry if everybody bought one amp and kept it.....

The only time that may not apply is if you have a client sitting next to you and you have 4 hours to finish something before it gets sent to mastering. Which is my reality many times. And if I'm futzing around with new gear it usually doesn't look to hot in their eyes. For me I have 6 amps, 5 guitar and an SVT, I know what they sound like and how to get what I need from them. To me that is important. Now I have used rig-talk to learn about many amps and how they sound and it has helped me in my decision making. I guess it's apples and oranges. And as far as boring threads go nothing is more boring then 900 threads about the same amp.... :scared:

Yeah, you got bizness to run James. Time is money and for you it is a different gig all together than the other 99% here.

Oh, congrats on the new addition, by the way. Hope mom and baby are doing great and you are getting some sleep.

With all that said what I don't understand is the constant amp flipper. That is a strange and illusive beast to me. To me after a while it's just like 'pick a damn side and make some f**kin music'. I mean really it's only rock-n-roll.

James,

All I will say is that I have been on both sides of this. When I wasn't in a band I was bored as hell and Amp flipping and tone chasing was extremely fun and me, Art and a few others learned a hell of a lot about what's out there. Now that I am in a band, I have had my Jose modded, Beat to Hell JCM 800 and have no desire to even hear anything else. I'd still be using my crappy DSL 50 had it not been for the tone ride and it sounded like a chainsaw.  I can guarentee when the band is finally over and boredom sets in I will be back to the chase. Just my two cents. Thanks and hope you and the family are doing well.

And I feel ya, I have had the opportunity to play and record more amps in my life then most will ever just because of where I worked and who I knew. So I guess to a certain extent my whole premise of this topic is bogus. :D Wouldn't be the first time I'm a dipshit.

I'm with ya man, our kids are the same spread apart. 2 and 4, with the 2 JUST turned 2 and the 4 turning 4 in a month. This past year has been the craziest, zaniest most complex and stressed out year my wife and I have had to date - just the dynamics and the chemistry, but apparently it passes... Just remember, 2 and 4, get through and no more!! 2 and 4, get through and no more!! 2 and 4, get through and....

What is it with people and their poor judgment in financial planning.

The classifieds are flooded with ads saying they need to let go of gear because of "other financial priorities that have come up".

If a one time 1000 or 2000 dollar sale is such a dramatic change in your family's financial stability they might want to consider the consequences a bit more before buying the brand new gear I'd say.
And if that 2000 dollars is part of a larger debt problem it's even more absurd that they've bought the damn thing in the first place when they clearly can't afford it.

There are even ads that represent only a couple of hundred dollars in value but the seller claims it would really turn his money problems around.

People need to either stop lying or start getting there priorities straight before buying stuff...

Ehhhh...ad's are ad's...at the end of the day, I couldn't care less why someone is selling.

I'll admit to laughing my ass off at "absolutely NO trades...need the cash....my cat needs surgery" then a week later seeing a list of trades the seller would consider

hey josh... i couldn't help but notice your post and was wondering if you were referring to me? a while ago i put my FJA modded Nitro up for sale in a desperate moment to raise some funds for veterinary services in order to try and save my cat. call me crazy , but i consider my pets as part of the family and would do/try anything to save them. unfortunately for me , after tacking a financial hit in selling the amp in a matter of minutes , she past away 5 days later after finding out it was cancer. so , if your post wasn't in reference to me..i would still think twice about making light of someone else's misfortune. there may actually be some sincerity in their post.

Hey Mark-

No, I wasn't referring to you, or making light of your situation....didn't even see your for sale post, and I'm assuming you didn't have a list of trades you were open to (after the item didn't sell) up a week later.

Sorry if the post hit too close to home, but I think we all know the type of seller I was referring to...

I'm not exactly known as an asshole around here, and as far as I know, we've never had any beef....as a matter of fact, you had the benefit of me not being an asshole today, just ask the guy you bought the Atomica from :D

No hard feelings?

Have a good night

I think because tone is so subjective and the quest never ends for most. I have had all kinds of amps and guitars play the shit out them and move on till you find what your looking for. I have a family and always put them first as long as they have what they need I get what i need and thats dicking around with gear everyone needs an outlet to unwind and enjoy life. If you can why not. If you cant you trade what you got for something else. Sure I have kicked myself in the ass for letting something go I know I would regret but end up finding that what makes me happy again. Just my 2 cents worth.
