What is the best lunch box size amp???

I ordered a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 40 Deluxe.

3 channels, multiple wattage, red box, midi

Owned the TM18, played the TM36...Never missed them after getting the Ironball (and Mark V:25) curious to see how you like it.

For the TM18 there was a EQ-ing trick of running bass and mids maxed, and treble between off and 9 'o clock, as these amps can get pretty fizzy fast.
By the way, just noticed the DROPPED the reverb from the TM36 in the Deluxe 40!

I liked the tones I heard of the Ironball. I almost ordered one, but I did not hear any clips of it doing a basic rock crunch sound. All the videos clips I heard were of metal sounds.

I hope the H&K works for me, three channels sound good.

I use to own a Mark V 90 watt head. My two favorite channels were the crunch and clean. I would of got the 25 watt, but they only offer them as voicings on channel one.

5150 III 50 watt is a great amp... the clean is a good clean I think.... the new lunchbox version has tapered gain and volume now as well I believe..

Yes, the new lunch box has the concentric pots for seperate controls for the gain and crunch. It is a bit pricey, that is why I went with the Hughes and Kettner.

EVH should use the concentric pots on the 50 watt. When I had the 50 watt, setting the crunch for a good sound made the clean suffer.

I just picked up one but it`s got the EL34s vs the 6v6s. I wouldn`t call it a lunch box size amp as it`s pretty heavy , seems heavier than my SS in the standard size head shell. But they are really cool amps for home use seeing as the loop volume works really well

So...in the 300-400 range is the 6505 mh the amp to beat? Never played one...but it sounds pretty good judging by YT clips. As much as I'd love to have a 1000 ironball or Splawn mini. The funds ain't there ATM

I payed one at GC last weekend. If you don't need a crunch sound, it is a good 2 channel amp. The clean channel was decent and the high gain channel was good too. I dialed the gain down, almost all the way on the gain channel and it did not provide a good crunch-type sound.

The crunch/mid gain stuff is definitely there. First, you can crank the Clean Gain; above 12 'o clock you're already in Malcolm Young land, above 2 'o clock it's The Who/Bad Company-levels of gain. Keep the Lead channel gain below 9 'o clock and you should be fine.

The reverb on the Ironball is great and footswitchable; the clean sound (Clean Gain @ 9 'o clock) is nice too, but not as nice as the Mark V:25's.

Same here , + the XTreme mode, which is not as 'extreme' as most folks make it out to be. It actually has LESS gain than the Mark IV mode, using the same settings, but sounds wider, thicker, yet more open. You can get Xtreme to sound reasonably close to CH1's Crunch mode, but it will lack that 'kerrang' throatiness of the Crunch mode most likely.

Soldano HR25 sounds amazing. My friend had one and AB'ing with my SLO was impressive.

MESA Mini-Rectifier is fantastic sounding. It was great to take to rehearsals when I was gigging and was loud enough with drummer in the room.

So many great choices these days.

I just picked up a Blackstar HT5R with matching 112 cab last night.

Too small for gigging...but I don't gig so..all good.

Can't wait to get it and give it a go.
