Marshall cab/speaker chronology IF it's important is this:According to Flemming there were around a dozen cabs in the studio that all sounded different. I find it unlikely that they shipped a dozen cabs from USA to Denmark. To me it’s more likely that the cabs used for Puppets were property of Sweet Silence.
Remember, when they recorded Ride The Lightning they didn’t even an amp with them to Denmark, because their gear had been stolen a short time earlier. So they had to rent an amp from a shop in Denmark.
The cabs look practically new and not beat up from touring etc. And also likely they were 8 ohm cabs since that what they were for the Scandinavian market back then.
I don’t doubt Metallicas own cabs had 65s though.
1978-1983...G12 65s in the 1960s, G12 80s in the 1982 cab(higher wattage not year). In 78 some 100w cabs still had BBs G12 Ms.
Late 1983-early 84-65s left, replaced by the craptastic M70s for a short time. G12H100s into the 1982 cabs.
Early 1984-present day....vented 75s, till 86 when the vents left. H100s in the higher wattage cabs. 100s till end of the 80s in 1982 cabs.
1987-90.....8 ohm Marshall vintages available in Jubilee cabs, AV/BV, and in 88-90 in 800 cabs but only tell is the back tag, which says AV/BV and 280w.
So, depending on when the albums were recorded, would they have used or new cabs? If the input jack is at the top of the cab, and stock not flipped that way they won't be 65s. They stopped using 65s while the jack was still on the lower portion of the back panel. M70s appeared while the jack was lower.
