What's a good delay in front of the amp? UPDATE

Pete Thorn did a demo of a delay specifically designed to go in front of an overdriven amp and I remember he seemed to like it. Can't remember the name. I'll have to look it up.

Lovepedal Echophonic Jr.

And why the hell do you want to run delay in front anyway?

He did the Capistan too.

Because it's great for that added doubling effect and it gets nice and dirty.

I used to run delay in the front of the ampo and then I discovered the loop haha. Never go back.

I run one in both places...the El Cap out front and a DD5 in the loop. Best of both worlds.

Are you going to run a delay into the front of the amp because you do not have an effects loop? Have you tried a wet/dry setup? I cant believe I never tried it until this year... It is the perfect way to deal with amps with no effects loop... Sounds incredible..

I have the Boss one I don't think it sounds very good in front on the 2203. What I used for delays was an old Ibanez HD-1500 DDL/Harmonizer. The delays and modulation effects were really good. The Harmonizer not so much ;)

I never delay a distorted guitar sound ever, I'll add a touch of reverb in post but that is it...I hate distorted guitars with gobs of delay on them.

I have a loop but some suck tone. And yes, I've done the w/d thing. It sounds great but is kind of a pita live.

The boss delay pedal wasremove from my board forever since I have now a much superior trex replica.

I know you already have one, but I'm getting reasonable results with the Flashback out front of a JCM800. Have to be very careful with the Level and Feedback knobs (and I mean really careful, very fine adjustments will make or break it IME), but it sounds pretty good in a variety of the modes. I think I like the MOD mode the best (because I think you have to give up the ghost on getting pristine repeats, so the MOD setting just embraces that).

I have to check that out

Used a DD3 in front for years. It pretty much sucked unless it was turned down so far it could barely be heard.

The only one Ive had luck with is the Digidelay. It can be turned up where it can be heard and actually sounds good. And its not too expensive.

You could look for a used one.

Yep, what Les Zombie said. Very quiet noise floor, adjustable delay level for high gain settings, tap tempo.

Seems to me you play some expensive gear... Why not invest in a delay of equal caliber? I would go with a Lexicon PCM 42 or a TC 2290 and be done with it. If it's a front of the amp delay you want, a Echoplex EP3, EP2, or Fulltone TTE are without equal. If not tape, then a big box Deluxe Memory Man or SIB Echodrive.

I was using a malekko 616 and an eqd dispatch master before my ac15. I think it sounds awesome, but in front you don't need much twisting of the mix knob! :-)

Update....

Well I watched a bunch of clips and the one that caught my eye was the Love Pedal Echophonic Jr. (Thanks Chris ;) ) I was a little skeptical after watching Pete Thorn's demo because he always makes everything sound good. Anyway Pete was right though, it sounds great through the front of my amps. There's really no comparison to the Flashback or the Carbon Copy. And the controls have allot more sweep which makes it much easier to dial it.

I have to give this one a shot. Where was the best deal?
