What's your go to Mics and Placement?

I tried several mics over the years, but i finally settled with a single 57 years ago.

I typically have 4 mic placement-"points": Outside the Dustcab, inside the Dustcab, Andy-Sneap style 2 cm away (kinda inside the dustcab, but angled to the centre) and recently Dead Center. one half of the 57 dustcab and the other half cone works too, you can go like 2cm away too.

But well, it all depends.

Here's a clip with the "outside the Dustcab placement" that i recorded today (guitars are not panned completely left/right this time), followed by the Dead Center Example from recently. It's probably a bit too dark.

The Dead Center Position might be the best representation of the actual sound going on in tje room, with the addidition of the equalizer-curve of the mic.

What's your go-to mics and placements and possibly preamps?

And in case anyone cares: I decided for the Ibanez808HWV2 and against the Maxon ST9Pro+

i prefer the first one.
your K100 have a large dustcap, if i am not mistaken, so you are quite far out already compared to a small dust cap.
never miced a speaker with a large dust cap myself.
With the V30s i place the mic just outside of the dustcap.

I have a bunch of mics, not sure I really have a favorite but I usually start with my Audix D2 dead center.

I don't have one setup, it depends on the situation and what kind of tone i'm trying to get

If I want a more "modern" sound I generally use two 57s in a fredman clip (one straight on, one 45 degrees)

If I want to sound more late 80s/early 90s (thrashy) I will use a 57 on the edge of the dustcap and a 421

If I want it to sound massive i'll combine both of those techniques with a sub kick mic and a 121 (or similar) backed off the cabinet, and maybe even mix in some phone mic if it's loud in the room and i'm trying to showcase a sound for shits and giggles (not for a track)
