I've got a 2013 LP Standard Plus and I just can't make myself like these pickups. They sounded good to me when I bought the guitar but now I don't like them. Any suggestions for replacements for classic/hard rock, no metal?

Feel the same way, looking into trying a set of Duncan SH-18 whole lotta humbuckers. Pagey tone in a bottle so they say. Great reviews for hard rock and classic rock, no metal here either. The BBP's are just lifeless and don't excel at anything IMO.

I dislike them. For one thing, they don't clean up like I want'em to, even after I installed new electronics. I'm considering a pair of Bare Knuckels VH pickups. Does anyone know em' ?

have those in my LP , work very well but order a Sheptone BRIAN KAHANEK SIGNATURE SET to get a try with lower output (that i tend to prefere a lot)

The BB Pros aren't bad... But there are definitely better sounding pickups out there. I play hard rock and use a Duncan Custom in the bridge and a 59 in the neck. The Slash set would be another great choice.

I liked the neck BBpro pretty well, but the bridge was too harsh in the treble. I think pulled them out of my LP standard LE, and put them in my '73 LP custom (along with a magnet change on the bridge and pulled the covers off). They sound good in my LP custom, though the neck now is a touch dark for my tastes.

An odd combination of icepicky in the highs and bloated in the lows. I changed them out of my 2010 LP Standard for Motor City Detroiters...much better.

the burst bucker series are the only pickups that i know of that can sound harsh and trebly as well as bassy and muddy at the same time

quite a feat to be sure!

I actually like my BBPs on my LP, but I seem to be part of a minority (not just on RT either). I like them for blues and rock, but I mostly play Eb Iced Earth type stuff. Perhaps I just haven't tried the right pickups and what I'm really digging is the LP sound itself, or maybe it's just my LP (I remember Jon Schaffer talking about LPs and he said some of them he changed pickups and some he left the stock ones in; it depended on that particular guitar). I've been wanting to try things like Icebuckers (3 Iced Earth references in one post, hah), warpigs, or painkillers or something, but since I'm happy I never really bothered. :scared:

This is my finding also. They may work for some, but did not for me.

I havent tried bb pros but forum member erock loves them.
Im a fan of the newer burstbucker custom and they are really clear sounding and sound nice when you roll off the volume. I also like bb2 and bb3. I play rock and metal, i like bright pickups that arent high gain.

The problem with the 2013 is that each pickup wire has five leads which go into a small ivory colored plug which plug into a circuit board in the cavity.

SH-5 Duncan Custom & 59' in my pauls Bro, been using that combo 15 years.

Stock Gibson pups are garbage. Only exception is the 57 Classic but it depends on the axe.

all guitars sound different

not every pickup will work in every guitar, even guitars of the same model.

if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I am considering putting a SD jazz back in the neck of my '73 LP custom with bbpros. What I found with that guitar, is that its so thick and mean sounding, that I don't need something high output, the aldrich in the bridge of that guitar was too much, I ended up running it split most of the time. I had the SD Jazz neck / Suhr Aldrich bridge before switching to the BBpros.

Anyone have any ideas for a pickup for the neck and bridge that is in the vein of a Gibson '57 classic, that is available in 4 conductor (already have push pull pots in the guitar)?

Maybe the Dimarzio 36th anniversary set?? Or the 36 neck, Super Distortion Bridge for something hotter.

I'm thinking about the same thing for my Trad Pro II.

Holla at Mr. Willy here on RT. I'm pretty sure he's got a PRS with a BK VH in the bridge.

On the 2013 standards, is it possible just to drop in a new pickup and run the five replacement wires the same without much hassle?
