I havent tried bb pros but forum member erock loves them.
Im a fan of the newer burstbucker custom and they are really clear sounding and sound nice when you roll off the volume. I also like bb2 and bb3. I play rock and metal, i like bright pickups that arent high gain.
ya know, it's funny, I really dig them in my 08 standard goldtop. That thing screams with them. My 2012 standard also sounds pretty good with them, but a little bright and thinner. I thought they would be a slam dunk in the traditional, but wow, some of the descriptions in this thread fit them perfectly. A hot mess, lol. So much depends on the individual guitar I guess. I recently put some BK Abraxis in my 57RI that completely shocked me. I got them on a good deal, and figured I'd just use them for more classic tones. My 57 had the BB1 and II stock, and they sounded really harmonic and full in the mids, but lacked a lot of what I need for the heavier styles I like to play. I thought it might be the guitar, but the Abraxis sound ridiculous in it. Huge, punchy, and a wicked aggressive mid grind that kept that harmonic richness. One of my favorite combos I've tried to this point. By the descriptions on Tims page, I had no interest in them to this point!

Bright, Harsh, muddy in the bridge, however, after I had the pots changed to 500k, the neck p/u sounds awesome

My LP studio came with them, and I can't stand that bridge pup. I put in a dimarzio crunch lab, and it is a million times better.

I am considering putting a SD jazz back in the neck of my '73 LP custom with bbpros. What I found with that guitar, is that its so thick and mean sounding, that I don't need something high output, the aldrich in the bridge of that guitar was too much, I ended up running it split most of the time. I had the SD Jazz neck / Suhr Aldrich bridge before switching to the BBpros.

Anyone have any ideas for a pickup for the neck and bridge that is in the vein of a Gibson '57 classic, that is available in 4 conductor (already have push pull pots in the guitar)?

Maybe the Dimarzio 36th anniversary set?? Or the 36 neck, Super Distortion Bridge for something hotter.

I'm thinking about the same thing for my Trad Pro II.

Those 36th anni pickups either seem to get glowing reviews or terrible reviews, so I am a bit wary about them.

That is kind of strange for sure. Another one I'm thinking about is putting some additional $$ into a Motor City Detroiter. Prob bridge only. Not sure about the neck with that one. Actually my 57 is not bad in the neck, just don't care much for the + in the bridge.

Also just thought about the Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker set. Supposed to be pretty good.

The problem with the 2013 is that each pickup wire has five leads which go into a small ivory colored plug which plug into a circuit board in the cavity.
Some winders offer the plugs. You cannot go wrong with Skatterbrane. I love his neck pickup.

On the 2013 standards, is it possible just to drop in a new pickup and run the five replacement wires the same without much hassle?

Yeah, just be sure it's a 4-conductor humbucker. Otherwise you'll have to mod its wiring if you like the coil split.

Well, after reading some of the other comments here, sounds like those 2013 LPs are a little more involved under the hood.

Not BBs but I've been unhappy with the stock 490 and 498 in my LP for years. FINALLY, I just rewired it with 500K CTS pots and put a Motor City 2nd Degree Black Belt in the bridge and it's like night and day! It sounds so good now I almost can't believe it's the same guitar.

Gibsons color codes are different then say Seymour Duncan, etc…..2013 is a PiTA with the circuit board and you can't tell what value pots it has either…no stamps.
