You're gonna get a ton of different opinions on OD pedals and everyone argues on what sounds best. I've owned a bunch and they all sound different on different amps. It's almost something you need to experiment with.

I'm getting the feeling you are right. I'm not a pedal guy anyway, I just started using my OCD in front of my Racto for the first time and love it and thinking of another flavor or maybe for my Marshall or plexi.

Fuck yeah! Love that clip man. Have you ever tried the Maxon compared to an OCD?

Yes sir I have!

Man you're quick. I'm gonna get a Maxon OD808, I like the way it complimented the OCD. It was smoother, more compressed and laid back in the mix more, way more hi fi, the OCD ripped more, felt more radical and in your face. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

Haha I made the vid a few months ago after a debate on another forum. Thanks for checking it!

I use a Timmy in front of my Marshalls and it works the best for me. Run the level up high to push the front end and the gain on about 1/4. This adds saturation and tightness. I like pedals that don't alter the amps original tone and the Timmy does just what I'm looking for.

The only 2 variations I am gassing for now is the Maxon OD808 just because it is so widely used, and the Way Huge Green Rhino just because it sounds great.

Many men, in the words of the infamous Barzini, know about Tube Screamers here. I don't own any, but used to have a Voodoo Sparkle Drive which had a mix control on it. Pretty cool, that way all of your signal didn't get to screaming.

Really all you need are a MIJ SD-1, DOD 250 and a TS-9 (any version). For both the SD-1 and TS pedals I mod them so the bass doesn't get removed when they are on. That always drove me crazy. The other high end expensive OD pedals are based on these.

The Bad Monkey is a very good pedal.

Like Darren said the TS-5 is cool too. I had one for quite awhile I'd stack with a Marshall Guv'nor.

I had the Ibanez TS9, it was decent. I like the Maxon 808 better.

Maxon 808 is my favorite. However the bass suck can be an issue with some amps depending. I had an 808 that was modded by Lordof Chaos..... It sounded even better, however I sent it back to him to take care of a noise it made when engaged and he never sent it back to me... Long story , but I miss that pedal..... My point is that a Maxon 808 with a little less bass cut and a little less compression would be perfect for me...I am actually wondering myself if there is a production pedal like that because most other OD pedals Ive tried arent as smooth and Hifi sounding as the Maxon 808.

My go to pedal that doesn't cut bass, and can actually boost it, is the boost side of the Fulltone GT-500. Bonus is that it's super quite as far as noise, none of the hissy dirt like many boost pedals have.

Good ol' TS9. I have tried tem all and it is still the go to for me when I want to boost. I own an OCD and don't think it is as good of a boost as a TS9, I like it much more for its full on distortion tone. Also, I must mention the Bad Monkey. Got one a while ago and it is scary good sounding. Seriously, try one, I like it much better than my OD808. Easily had for $30.

...boss sd-1...

jk. seriously ive been digging the maxon 808. it's pretty smooth and easy going. it's also like 30 buck cheaper than the ibanez equivalent.

I just got the awesome deal on an 808 thanks to your video. I will use it this week and report back.

Maxon until I got my KRANKSHAFT !!

No comparison, Krankshaft is soooo much better.

I have a bunch of Overdrive pedals including most of the ones mentioned in this thread. I keep a Maxon 808 and a SD-1 on my board. Cant go wrong with the two of those!

I too like the maxon od808, seems to have more output and less noise than my TS9, too.
