I think Dave also had a big part in designing the Blankenship Variplex, which a friend of mine has and it really sounds fantastic! I agree, I would never send my amp to cameron, and just based off of turnaround time, and the fact that other pro's trust him, Dave Friedman seems like a safe bet. But then again a some of the others mentioned who have a solid history and rep I am sure would be able to take your amp to the next level. Good communication on your end would really help probally to getting the end result you are looking for. Sometimes tone words and ears are subjective. Anything you could say to convey what you are hoping for i am sure will go along way.

sounds Like Friedman has a ton of experience and is widely regarded as a tone guru. Thaks for the info.

Soldano or Friedman that is the dilemna. I am waiting for a call back from Friedman.

Soldano does a mod which replaces the stock preamp circuit with the preamp of the SLO. That may be pretty killer too.

My vote and my amp are with Friedman.

He is doing my purple plexi Marshall which he received about 4 weeks ago and should be on the way back to me next week.

I wanted a high gain head similar to a Cameron but with more violin type sustain and one that would cut in the mix.

My mod at Dave's suggestion is a hybrid between the "Brown Eye" and "Angery Hippie" mods. As I understand it, there is a deep knob on the back and an extra gain stage on a push pull pot so I can go between EVH Brown/Aldrich/Joe Holmes type tones into heavier sounds (Uber Inspired type) with a push pull.

I will post up when it arrives back with a review.

Brad

p.s: Dave is also building my new rack system around a Bogner Fish, Axe-FX Ultra and VHT 2/50/2 so I trust him!

Hey Brad,

Thanks for the input. I am leaning that direction now. It is between Soldano and Friedman. May I ask how much the Mod you are getting costs? Thanks,
Jason

mod is around $500-$600 depending on what you have done.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the post. I did call you. Give me a call back when you can. I look forward to speaking with you.
In short, I have an 81 JCM 800 and a '71 1987 and both sound great with a Tube screamer in front. I listened to Rockstah's clip posted by Mentoneman earlier in this thread and was blown away.. That, or something really close to that would be a great compliment to the tones I am getting with my existing amps. Let's talk.

Thanks,
Jason

Well the Fn'A amp as we are calling it is a great plexi circuit thats it in that clip. So its really not a mod but with that kind of amp comes a lot of vol. If you want a master and that kind of tone I would recommend the brown eye mod or the hairy brown eye. The only difference it the hairy has the ability to get more gain. Dave

Well, then it sounds like a hairy brown eye may be just what I want. I would still like an oportunity to talk with you, at least briefly, to be sure we are on the same page etc.. Is Monday a good day for you to speak with me for a few minutes? My number is on your voice mail.

Why not just get a SLO then ?

:dunno:

Hmm, well let's see. An SLO and a Soldano Modded Marshall are hardly the same thing.. I had a Bogner Modded JMP and it was modded with the blue channel of the XTC more or less. It sounded nothing like the XTC Blue Channel. A modded Marshall will still retain some of the qualities that only a Marshall have. not to mention some specific differences ...

Different power section
El 34's versus 5881's
50 watts versus 100
2200.00 or more used versus @ 500.00 and the amp I already have.

Not to mention I have owned half dozen or more SLO's over the years and something a bit different is more intriguing.

Thanks all..

So a lot of you are saying dave friedamn. Call me ignorant, but I do not know much about him. I went to the RacjK Systems website but there was not alowt of info. I suppose I ought to call him. I was leaning towards Soldano. They are nearby and I have always loved the SLO. Maybe Ed D. or David Simpson can chime in. I think they both have owned or played a Soldano Modded superlead. if I remember correct, Ed D raved about that amp.

Any specifics on Dave f or his mods that I can chew on for the eve.?

Thanks,

Hey David,
How's things? Hope you are well. Pretty epic fall ihere in the Pac NW eh? it has been sunny and watrm here in Seaside.

That is what I remember about that amp. He called it the Sloshall or something like that. I was thinking of getting in touch with him. I wish I had two mutts to have modded. All my other Marshalls are in good original condition and worth keeping that way. '79 JMP 50 in Fawn, Mint Silver Jube with plastic still on the front and back panels, White '82 2203 , '69 Plexi Major and a '71 50 watter.

Peace..
