I had one and didn`t care for it at all . It sounded fizzy and flubby , the EVH 5150 50 watt that I had sounded way tighter with much less fizz and my Splawn Super Sport just annihilated it in every way. Maybe my ears just don`t like the Soldano tone but there some stuff on record like Ratt & Motley Crue that sounds fabulous . I know they were using SLOs but from what everyone says the HR25 is a baby SLO . I was bummed I had high hopes

What speaker and guitar setup were you using?

Hey James, you should let him know about your $400 power cables so he can get better tone. If not, those $300 Jensen Alnico speakers you recommend will make all the difference.

Hey asshole, I bought (from BCM) an SLO-100 and my Hot Rod 25, plus a 2x12 and 1x12 Soldano cab and was never recommended either cable or speaker. Maybe shut your fucking pie-hole. You should talk about $$$$ and tone, pissing thousands on a High School Shop Project overpriced toneless amp.

He he, you're so butthurt for nothing. It's true, he does have $400 power cables that improve tone and highly recommends a $300 Jensen alnico speaker. I didn't lie about that so fuck you. There's even a Premier Guitar article that mentions it https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/review-soldano-44-blues-city-music-signature-amp-1 I don't know what stupid high school project you're talking about, but I'd love to hear how your tone and playing is so great that you can go around criticizing other people's gear.

So what? Lots of people recommend all sorts of shit. You imply he's talking people into buying this stuff and never had that experience. So, you're full of shit. My tone and playing has been around for years. I play thru all kinds of amps and get good tones.
None of my clips are jerk-off shredding to simpleton ballads, looking for the next notes to play.

Uh OK, but keep in mind that I'm humble about my playing ability. I don't do it professionally. I just love to play. Unlike you who thinks you're some hot shit when you're clearly not. I've heard your stuff and your playing is novice. Your music is uninspired, you can't alternate pick so you try to cover up for it with shitty legato, your vibrato sucks, your phrasing is generic, and your tone is mediocre. That's all beside the point, but you brought it up to begin with. The fact is that you were wrong on the power cable/speaker topic, but you're not even man enough to admit it.

By the way, where is all your great playing? All I see is a bunch of removed video links. I guess it wasn't up to your elite standards so you're redoing with with your superior gear.
Ubermentaldood you really are the biggest douchebag on this forum and that's saying a lot. You simply brought up a "$400" power cable to be an asshole.Plain and simple. But yet you cry like a bitch when someone says something you don't like on one of your threads. Carl's clips kick ass. Maybe you should listen again and learn something.

I saw your videos before you too them down dummy. What was it you said a little while back? Oh yeah, "Nothing but clips from now on," or something like that. Well, it looks like you failed on the delivery. Therefore, you don't get to hype your own playing when you can't deliver the goods. My guess is you wanted to cover your tracks and delete your crap playing probably because you planned on trying to record something halfway decent to get away with your trash talk. All I say is that if you're going to criticize other people's playing and gear but brag about your own at the same time, then you better be like Pete Thorn or something. Where in the article or on this forum is he pushing this cable or speaker? The speaker comes in the amp he designed with Mike Soldano for his personal studio use. He dug it and Mike is offering it to others. The article simply says an upgraded Monster cable was sent with the amp. The speaker was what was in the combo.

Ah, right on cue. Padre Bionic and Copilot's little tag team trolls. Well, that 'big upgrade' power cord they mentioned in the article and the even bigger power cord are exactly the ones I was referring to. You should try reading because it clearly talks about the big upgrade. I'd love to hear how a thick power cord is supposed to be a "big upgrade." Maybe you can explain to us all how something like that works since you want to inject yourself into the debate.

You would need to ask the author of the article who is clearly not James. If I had to guess,I would say a larger cable with better materials would deliver cleaner more efficient power to the amp which would theoretically improve its performance. But again James has not pushed this or the speaker on anyone claiming it will improve a different amp.

Oh, so you're a psychic and a James Lynn Burke expert now. You somehow mysteriously know what James says to all of his customers. You have such a mystic ability to know all of his dealings that you can somehow so confidently deny other people's experiences. Wow! What an amazing talent you have there. You sure debunked the whole article and anyone who ever even thinks of criticizing BCM sales tactics.

Oh and here's Lynn's response to why that cable was sent with the amp:
"Lynn Burke (BCM) • 9 years ago
Power Cords (BCM official response) ??? Hey guys/gals, I've been out of town for a last minute vacation and could not respond to your comments earlier as to WHY I sent a Monster Cable MPL 300 to PG Mag for testing of my Soldano 44 BCM amp. I ONLY SENT it as this amp, Serial #2 is my OWN personal 44 as is Serial #1, hence Mike's Signature on the back of the amp chassis. I had an intern in the studio misplace this amp's power cord and only had my OWN PERSONAL MPL 300 at home to send in the box for testing, or a custom one off Solid Cables prototype power cord that was too big to fit in the respective spot in the box to ship. If you live in a rural area as I do, and you experience voltage drop as I do, these cables will help prevent anymore voltage drop from the outlet to the amp. It is also a cord that won't get destroyed if a floor monitor falls on it, been there done that, and it is easy to determine who owns what at the end of the night's gig while loading out. Pure and simple, my amp comes with a STANDARD issue power cord just like every other amp manufacturer on the planet. Sorry, for any confusion, but this are the facts. Thanks so much for checking out my amp as Mike Soldano, Bill Sundt, and I spent 2 long years dialing this thing in, and it does exactly what the review says and then some."

Oh yeah, well that just proves everyone else wrong now. Sorry boy, nice try, but that's just Lynn walking back what he said when someone called him out on it. Shit, I should dig up some old emails and see if I still have the estimate for the $399 power cable and $350 speaker he said would magically make my SLO go from legendary to godly. Yep, I must be lying about the whole story for no particular reason right? Hmmf, whatever man.

"Asshole," "Shitass," and "Retard." Hmmf, that's quite the vocabulary you've got there. Well then, don't keep us all in suspense. Where is the link to your vault of superior playing and gear? Who are you supposed to be? I don't remember seeing your albums on ITunes. Yeah, I listened to a couple of your videos before and remember your playing. How can someone forget that shitty, thinned-out, bullshit legato from a guy who talks like he's a guitar god. Face it, you talk shit and you can't back it up. Then you have the audacity to act like you never said anything of the kind. Criticize me all you want, but at least I don't brag about my playing and gear.

Hey shitass, My video and audio clips are all over my YT and FB pages. Wrong again.
Funny thing.....where am I hyping my playing? I look at this thread cause I own a HR-25. Where am I hyping anything? I'm only pointing out the obvious asshole....you.
Again, you critique my playing, yet claim I have no clips. Retard.

Where am I bragging, fuckhead? Where? You didn't care for any clip I posted? I consider that a compliment. You know nothing about phrasing, vibrato, etc. In fact, based on your clips...listening to you fish for the next note is the sign of a certified hack. That and the fact that you shouldn't jam to shit w/ changes you can't navigate. Notes that are not in tune, bs scales. You can't fake your way out of that kind of backing, and it exposes you as a chump-change punk-ass GC hack at best. Go cry on another thread like the whelped bitch you are.

Why should he PM you? Are you the amp Sage? There are good responses (except yours)
What's the resale on that DickWood amp?    You should have spent the $$$$ on a Mel Bay Book.

To the OP: check out Carl's clips on it. Killer tone and playing. Period.

This guy's clip was helpful to me when I was researching the HR-25.

Allright, i just gotta jump in here with something that's been bugging me.....
The HR25 is a very nice amp, but I just don't think it's accurate for people to keep calling it a "Mini SLO", because it's NOT.
Even the guys up thread who say they prefer it over the SLO ( which is fair, and I can fully understand that ) say it sounds different. They are not saying " both amps sounded identical, so I went with the less expensive, low wattage version."

The unusual cathode follower arrangement driving the FX loop gives the SLO a very unique character to the overdrive, and the 100watt power section coupled to the DeYoung tranformer gives the amp a heft that is tough to match. ONLY an SLO sounds like an SLO. To give the impression ( intentional or not ) that someone can have an amp that sounds "just like an SLO" and play it in the house while the wife watches TV is just not the way it is.

I liked the HR25 when I had one, I really did. It sounded great and is probably the Cadillac of all the lower wattage amps out there. But if somebody wants an amp that sounds " just like an SLO", then they are just going to have to bite the bullet and get an SLO.

OK - sorry, rant off

Funny thing is both of those pickups you listed I did not like in my Charvels through this amp. My DeMartini with an RTM though is amazing as is my Music Zoo mahogany natural series with an A2 JB. My issue with the stock JB was that it was just too bright though. Not flubby at all. The AT-1 was just bland sounding with no balls. Once I swapped the A2 into the JB it was awesome.

I can't see the pickups being the root of the funky tone I got out of the HR25 I'm not saying it's not possible but I've never had a pickup cause or cure the tones I got out of the HR25 . Crazy cause the clip I heard of the amp being demoed with Mike Soldano it sounded unbelievable . Does anyone in the Bay Area have one ? Id love to come try it out to see if I had a lemon
