Because that's all you have to do to capture an audience is it? Throw up one of the most easy-to-make shapes with your hands and that's it?

I come from the same town as the guys from Angine de Poitrine. In fact, they're friends with someone in my family who works in the music industry.I know who they are but I don't know them personnaly. They're good guys who genuinely love music and, by the way, are very talented musicians.

They used to create this kind of music and perform—or at least try to perform—their compositions live. I have to say that the audience response was pretty weak, both where they come from and elsewhere.

At one point, they came up with the idea of performing in these costumes that, honestly, don't mean anything at all. It felt like they were saying, "Let's make a joke out of this." Well, that was the start of the trend. Now, even in their hometown, it's fashionable to say that you like their music, and if you say otherwise, people rush to defend them.

Personally, I don't like their music, but I'm genuinely happy for them that they've gained visibility and gone from playing in front of 25 people in an underground bar to performing on stages in front of thousands.

Don't forget that even they know it—the costumes!!!

I hope for their sake that the trend continues for a long time, although I have my doubts

Yep, a big part of getting your music out there is to have a unique look, rather than most bands who just stand around wearing black or similar. They've done well and rightly so!

Makes me wonder where is popular / mainstream music headed in the future. It seems it has been stuck for about 25 years or so. Not saying there isn't new good music out there, but there's nothing in the mainstream which sounds like a fresh new direction. Will there ever be anything fresh and exciting in the mainstream again? History says that it should happen, but we have no idea how long it will take. Sometimes it feels like God put an expiration date on mainstream music about 25 years ago.

It’s all in cutesy AI voices and four chords played to infinity, because that’s all the average listener can relate to. And there will be thousands of releases everyday to make sure nothing made by a human reaches listeners.

As a side effect of this process, human creativity will die a slow death and whatever pitiful earnings one could make in the music industry will evaporate.

That is, all except for the pyramid shape throwers and heavily tattooed artists. Got to make it seem like someone is doing well in the music industry, but it’s just not you.

At that point of time, the electric guitar - which has always been seen as a symbol of youth rebellion - will be replaced by midi and soulless machines.
