Why do most newer Marshalls suck?

Marshall has taken the "kitchen sink" route. They have become the jack of all trades and master of none amp. What made their earlier amps so great was their simplicity. However, in this day and age, people think they need four channels and MIDI and power switching options. When you thow all that bullshit into an amp the overall tone is going to suffer. If they would make a simple two channel amp that was based on a Modded JCM800 with a good clean sound, they wouldn't be able to keep them on shelves. They have also priced themselves out of the game. Why would you spend JVM money when a Splawn is in the same price range and sounds the way you wanted the Marshall to sound in the first place?

There simply are too many other companies that make a better Marshall that Marshall does.

I'd take a YJM, KK, AFD, 2203x, 1959/87x and Jubilee RI over any Splawn. They're OK, but the Jubilee RI is a great sounding Marshall IMO. And a boost in front of any of the 3 still produced gets you into heavy territory. They make killer amps, just not much of a selection. I agree that a 2 channel Marshall with a modded gain channel and a good clean would sell like crazy.

Marshall did 3 amps worth to mention after the JCM800.
Jubilee
AFD
YJM

And they were all limited editions. Purely stupid.
What people want from Marshall in the past 25 years? A Plexi with an option to have the cranked sound without ears bleeding. They did it quite well in the YJM and released 1500. They should change the name to SYOFATT.
Shotting Your Own Foot All The Time

Someone should just make a good JCM800 and Superlead.

In a world before Chinese cheap production, things lasted and had a little more thought and care put into them. Marshall in England probably used all localized parts and components.

Now the west creates dull automated assembly lines outside china and slap a premium on it for being "Made in England" even though the parts may still come from abroad. I bought some AKG headphones that said "engineered in germany" and in small writing under it saying "manufactured in germany". I don't think the headphones even passed through Germany at any stage.

It's a business decision that must be hard, you have to please shareholders so send your workforce to china, mass produce and just set the standard to "does the job"

That's my opinion anyway

China can build things as good or better than anyplace else in the world. If you pay them to build it that way. The reason you see so much junk from China is because that is what people are paying them to build.

Very true, I have a chinese squire that is amazing quality for the price. Pickups are always where they skimp, chinese stock pickups are never that great

Didn't Satch sig JVM have a gate?

Yes I had one, at first I really liked the amp but after the honeymoon, it seemed like it was really fine tuned for Joe's specific gear.

That's the problem, too many limited or sig amps from Marshall last several years.

I think if they get the features from these sig amps into a JVM-2 it would be great.

Maybe Marshall are only still alive because they moved into the business of stage props.

Marshall makes most of their profit from the inexpensive lines...hell, when I was 15 my first Marshall was a solid state combo. Worked and sounded great, brought it overseas when I was in the military in the 80s..in 91 I sold it locally here in Wi and he played that thing every week for almost 20 years..finally shit the bed a few years ago. He loved that little combo so much, he tried to get it repaired....

Marshall's are not meant to be boutique, but i think they've tried to get into the market of modern amp building when IMO is not their strength. they own the defnitive rock n roll sound. The reissue plexi's and super leads ( especially from the 90's) sound great to my ears just stock with a good pedal. They do good at keeping it simple, one channel and leave it up the player to define his or her sound. thats what makes there products special, like Fender guitars which i think people are high if they think the quality is bad, you just have to look in the right direction know what your getting. Fender Custom shop guitars are amazing and so are some signature series.. the prices ae ridiculous though for both companies, Im surprised they havent put a reissue for the Master Volume JMPs form the 70's.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the DSL. I know lots like them, and many pros tour with them but the Jube RI is easily worth 2X the cost IMO. Not even in the same conversation. Of course the Jube needs a boost....but an SD1 is cheap enough.

The older DSL's were decent. Where is the DSLH made in? Mexico?

The first DSL's with the drake trannys that came out sounded really good.

I believe Vietnam.

Marshall obviously doesn't care about the history they created!!! They don't listen to what people really want. People want the classic designes!!
