will a mesa dual rectifier sound noticeably different with 1960a cab compared to 4x12 mesa cab

I prefer to use mine with a 1960AV. It's punchier and warmer/thicker. More in your face. I do have a 412OS, which gives a colder, more distant sound. Not a bad sound necessarily, and could be the better choice if a rhythm/backing player.
Honestly this a good option and underrated and pretty much come with 70w versions of a UK V30 for Marshall wired in 16 ohms mono vs 8 ohms mono.

I like my mids.... to stay the fuck out of the way! Lol.

I actually find I can use my Mids knob more with T75s. I can turn it up a bit. With V30s you pretty much have to keep them under 1 to avoid the nasal mid honk.
This is true with the V30 Chinese or UK so if you don't want as much mids and something more even on that end and more rough/rigged/not as smooth in a good way the 75 may be a better option for some and it ain't bad tbh :dunno:

Nothing wrong with a Dual Rec through a Marshall cab. It can sound really good! Until you then play it through a Mesa 4x12 cab. IMO, even the vertical 2x12 sounds more correct with that head.

I had the OS 4x12 but my friend had the standard size one. I actually liked the projection on his better.

These days I have no 4x12 cabs and I hardly ever see them out on local stages anymore. It’s really fucking sad but time marches on.

If I was recording, I’d be fine to just use a load box and an IR. Sorry, I would … LOL.

I've had a couple JCM900 1960A cabs.. one thing I found helped tighten them up some, especially if they are older, is to make sure the speakers are tight to the baffle. Not cranked down to the point of bending the frame, but I've found in both of my old cabs the screws were almost to the point of being hand loose in the baffle. Getting them tight helped with the boominess you can run into with the 75's.

I also seal the handles with weather stripping. This makes them puncher like Mesa cabs.

Yes, they still sound good though.

Glad you posted that. I didn't catch the context but for the record were the different cabs all IRs or the real deal? The Marshall cab did sound good w V30s (1st one?). Didn't care for the 75s or the Greenbacks at all in this comparison.

BUT - the Mesa Cab with "C30s" sound WAY better imo. The best of the group.

Try to find a cab with V30 first. Yes the size of the cab matters too, but if you are going to do shortcuts, go with something with v30 first.

Is your OS wired stock?

Yeah you can probably find a Marshall 1960BV or AV for a decent price used and those have the Marshalls proprietary UK V30.

This or even an Orange 412 or Hughes and Ketner loaded with V30s used. Check out MF or GC used and you may find a deal that works for a song even with shipping.

They're all the real deal cabs mic'd up and double tracked.
