Will you guys still use modelers if they require a subscription?

I've used Sibelius notation software since 2004. I paid for it twice in the past, to a total of around $600. Sibelius as bought by Avid and eventually moved to subscription product and I just refuse to pay that every month. I have an older version of the program that I use mostly, and I have a trial version on the Mac that I can just reset every month if I need to use the current version. Subscription is not the solution, and I hope these companies grow out of it.

If modelers go to the route that a lot of software has gone, will you still use them?

Nope, I don’t use any software that requires a subscription, if they don’t offer a perpetual license I find something else, though I don’t mind paying for upgrades if I decide to upgrade.

But as for modelers, I can’t see how anyone would try and move a hardware unit to a subscription base, it would seem like a death sentence for a product.

no.

many of the the guitar software plugins I use offer free updates; buy once, and so far free updates, some for several years and counting. PolyChrome DSP, Neural DSP, Blue Cat Audio,...probably more; but not all; so check before you buy.

I discovered recently that I had a plugin on my old Mac that I was no longer using and was in storage. It barely works. I had to go turn it on and deauthorize the plugin on that computer or else, I would have to buy it again. Make sure you take off your plugins on any old computers before you toss them.

true. many of the newer plugins let you install multiple copies with your license; each time you authorize a copy, it associates it with your license, and updates your usage count on their website. but you still need to uninstall it to reduce your usage count

Considering that of all the modelers I've had over the years I usually settle on about 4 tones; a subscription would be an epic waste of money.
