Will you guys still use modelers if they require a subscription?

Only if one of the really cool YouTube influencers I look up to tells me I should.

I've been a Helix user since 2019 and really enjoy all the updates they have given for free over the years. If it required a subscription I would move on to something else or go back to amps immediately. I use the Helix for gigs and I couldn't justify having a payment to use my gear.

I have heard of a lot of guys using this for gigs. I would love to try one

Nope.

I also wouldn’t buy any modeler that required an always online connection.

Fractal business model for me only. Pay for something once up front, get free updates and support for the life of the product.

I've had enough of subscription-based anything. I drive old enough vehicles that manufacturers couldn't charge me for anything if they tried. I avoid anything "smart" like the plague. I don't even want to pay monthly for music streaming anymore, just gotta wait until my CD collection is big enough to cancel YouTube music

Nope. I only use modelers for convenience at home. I’ve got a silent recording/ RLIR setup that I would just use instead.

I don't use computer simulations for my guitar tone.

Fuck. no.

I have no interest in modelers. I can see them being useful for low volume practice, but that's it.

Selling settings for a multi-fx or any other digital device is like a form of subscription and it's now a big industry as it's been everywhere for many years on YouTube and other social media platform.

I understand for IRs or captures as it requires some good tools and/or amps/cabs to create them but paying for some knob twisting. A big NO for me and I've tested many from frustrated customers. Save your money for real gear instead.

Hard fucking no and depending on how that subscription model were introduced would help me decide if I wanted to sell the thing entirely and be done with whatever company it was.

I wouldn’t put it past NDSP to pull some shit like this, they’re already got their DLC bullshit going on with the QC. If Fractal did it right out of the gate, like over a decade ago, it wouldn’t sting too hard because it’s hard to argue Fractal’s model of “Buy now and keep getting updates to fuck and back until we can’t do it anymore”, but doing it now would feel like a rug pull.

That said, I could never update my AxeFX again and be totally fine for the rest of my life. I already skip updates for months at a time as it is.
