Wizard MCII MKII and Henning Cherry Bomb video

Decided to do a little comparison clip. In room iPhone recording.

I do not have them dialed to sound the same, but rather what sounds/feels good to me.

I know I didn’t play the exact same riffs….was just noodling.

Love both these amps. The Cherry Bomb has been my number one for pretty close to 15 years, but the Wizard is right there. Amazing amp IMHO.

Cherry bomb has that upper mid grind going on which seems to stand out. Wizard has more of a scooped sound going on.

I think I prefer the Wizard here. Excellent comparison clip!

I dug em both, I liked the mids on the CB more but the low end on that Wizard is sick.

What did you use to record this, if I might ask?

Thanks man. Good to see you! I lurk and occasionally post these days….for the most part, my gear whoring has been nonexistent for years, but there are a few amps that have caught my attention recently, Wizard among them. Hoping to get my hands on a MTL and Hell Razor at some point.

Steve bowed out from here years ago. I seem to recall that something caused it, but don’t know what. He was always great to me and very helpful. Hope he is good!

Recorded with an iPhone mic….No real recording equipment, or skill.

I love em both too! I’m still learning the Wizard (have had it for a little over a week), but damn is it awesome. I’m trying to find that last little bit of squish in the tone. The relationship between the Contour, Presence and Bright knobs provides a ton of flexibility in the feel, bite, grind. The Cherry Bomb is dialed IN. I probably haven’t touched the controls on it in 5 years. It just fits me like a glove.

Cab is my trustee Avatar Vintage loaded with very well broken V30’s. This cab sent all my other “high end” cabs packing years ago. It’s just got mojo.

I have to be honest with you I expected the wizard to completely blow the Cherry Bomb away but I will say the upper mids on the Cherry Bomb make it stand out a little more but I'm still a wizard Fanboy now it's my favorite amplifier and I miss it!

The CB sounds pretty great here, the wizard is okay I guess.

After hearing the clip I thought, I remember when those CB's were a thing, I remember that Steve closed up shop, etc but can't remember details... I wonder what these things go for or if they can be found in the wild...

Didn't find any on the used market but I went back and looked up a bunch of forum posts on them, etc and it's like 90% people sh*tting on them and saying they need more gain. LOL.

I want to add that I owned a cherry bomb at one point in the past:

I don’t know about Tony, but it never had enough gain for me. Aggression yes, gain no at least under the fingers. How does the MCII compare?
