I seem to recall something about a used Cherry Bomb at a GC and the guy who was looking at it getting in to a pissing match with Steve about something.
Lil foggy on the details though. Think he called it quits not long after that

I remember testing the Henning Bottle Rocket prototype. I ended up getting a production model. Such great amps and Steve was just a stud. The Bottle Rocket was, essentially, a single channel Cherry Bomb.

My favorite Cherry Bomb moment was the time there were FOUR of them on page 1 of the classifieds at one point. Now THAT's impressive!

He publicly shared the schematics, btw... At least for the "PlexRod" design. And the Bottle Rocket was a single channel amp you could choose either "Plex" or "Rod" channels from the Cherry Bomb.

Definitely need a boost to get where I want to go…but I boost EVERYTHING. If you notice in the vid, the gain is a little past noon.
I also put a MXR 10 band in the loop of every amp I play. Sometimes I don’t even adjust sliders from 0. It just adds IT for me.
I will typically turn the gain down until I find the sweet spot to get what I am looking for when using a boost on every amp I play. For the MCII, the sweet spot seems to be around 4 o’clock, but I’m still learning the amp. The thing I’m doing with the effects loop now, may change where I end up.
What I am looking for is a good bit of controlled gain with a little squish/grease to give me the aggression I love for thrashy rhythm tones and palm mutes.
This got me thinking about the 800 I gigged with until I got tired of being told to turn down. I always boosted that amp too. At that time, I knew nothing about amp mods, but I wonder if I had been able to get a MV and effects loop installed on it if I would have ever moved on. This was way before I discovered on line amp boards.
The Cherry Bomb is like the ultimate 800 to me. It has a great loop and master volume, so I can get the tones I love at almost any level, the mids are very Marshally and it takes boosts extremely well….just like a good 800.
The way I get where I want to go may also be why I didn’t like any of the VH4’s I owned. Who knows.
What I do know is that the Cherry Bomb has been with me for longer than any amp I’ve ever owned and I still love it. Not about to try and convince anyone else it’s the amp for them, but it does exactly what I want it to do.

The Plex channel, double boosted is right up my alley as well. I have vids on YouTube where I did exactly this.

You can see where the volume is in the vid, not super loud, but not quiet either. You can’t have a conversation in the room without yelling.

They both sound good. Certain parts, i like one over the other.
I would love to hear both with the gain backed off and at volume with no attenuation. I feel like the thing that makes the wizard great is the clarity from the dryness, and I am not getting that strong here. But the cherry bomb sounds pretty tight. Like to see how it would sound with the mids a little scooped

Under gained and stiff feeling seemed to be the common complaint. Clips always sound great to me though, I used to want one

My Bottle Rocket was based on the Plex channel. Totally agree; the loop and master volume were excellent. I rarely (if ever) boost my amps but I actually really loved the way that amp took a boost. I am more of a combo amp guy now for the past couple of years. I was actually working with Steve on the side about a conversion of my Bottle Rocket head to a combo but he decided to close things up. In addition,m I figured someone would rather have the head version, so I sold it. Otherwise, I would still have that amp. It really was pretty great!

Here is a clip of the Bottle Rocket I owned. This clip is from 2018, my first live performance ever. I was a little nervous. Granted, it is a cell phone recording but you get the idea.
I also had Michael Nielsen create Kemper profiles of my Bottle Rocket for me. I have a couple I still use at home. The opening clip of this video is one I recorded at home (Satriani cover). The intro clip is a profile created from my personal settings on the amp.

I had a Bottle Rocket briefly and was digging it the little I got to play it before returning it because of an issue where the sound just kept cutting out. I bought it used and tried to trouble shoot with Steve and he wasn't very helpful. I asked to send the amp to him to repair totally on my dime and he flat out refused. Shame because I think I would have really liked that amp. At least the seller was cool enough to take it back and refund me. I know he had his local map tech look at it but the issue didn't resurface for him.

Yeah in this clip the Henning amp wasn't so brittle on the top end and it had like a swirl going on, sounded best.
Any chance we can get both of them without the EQ and without the Maxon on the Cherry bomb
