Wolf vs Wolf - How much difference between the Standard and the Special?

i have a mim special in ivory im willing to sell if anyone has a hankering....
i have way too many guitars....

I have a hankering, but have reservations.. Many say they need shimmed for low action? Also, I don't like that the pickups are non-height adjustable, and a pain to switch out for aftermarket?

I could be way off on all accounts, but those have been my reservations. The pickups are way too hot for my liking.

I owned one briefly.. I got back to back lemons from American Musical. First one, the bridge studs kept pulling out of the body! Second one also had some kind of issues with the Floyd/nut. It kept going way sharp after light use, and I swear I checked every possible cause... I was ready to break it over a chair, and back it went.

I have been eye-balling a nice black MIJ hardtail on Reverb for awhile. Guy wants $1699, and won't budge. It's nice and all, but $1699 is more than I want to fork over. Plus tax. Plus shipping. Fuck that..

I was too until I discovered you're getting an older PV (usually a Korean) MIM or possibly a Chinese in crappy color.
Unfortunately, $1500+ ish is range for nice condition Japanese.

The Peavey Wolfgang pickups are some of my favorite pickups ever yet built honestly; pretty unique sounding/feeling to me

I just had one that I did some measurement on. 16.3k with a slight offset. 8.3k on the slug coil 7.9k on the screw coil. 44awg wire and Ceramic magnet. This is the same wire gauge as the distortion or JB smaller gauge than a super distortion b

Ceramic? EVH Wolfgang pickups are suppose to be Alnico II.
