Worst guitar solo ever????

Radar Love by Golden Earring. That whole song is awful, but from the guitar solo through the end of the song the guitar isn't even in fucking tune anymore. Just painful.

Not the Mark Day /Canuck version ...

Vito does a good job too.

As for Golden Earring I partied down to that tune a lot, it was the 70's ... WTF ?

Kerry King played the solo on the Beastie release

Wow. Didn't know that.

Well, I have to respectfully disagree with the OP then. Regardless of whether or not you personally care for that lead break, I am quite confident more people on this planet can hum or whistle along to that lead than any lead ever written by Lynch, DeMartini, Satch or Vai.

FFYRTP was a huge success and still continues to receive massive airplay. Notwithstanding the "lousy lead" break in it....

Just found the tab to the cult of personality solo:

Sheryl is hot so she easily redeems it .
The note choices are not the greatest . but the tone is thin and awful
Sounds like a Line 6 direct or a direct out of a tube head

neil young, just about most solos he plays, rockin the free world, etc.....horrible vibrato, timing, skill.

Better than the original in many respects.

Better than the original? Come on, even if you dislike the song you can't possibly say that.

On my mobile. Have to ask: when FFYRTP is referenced above, are we talking Beastie Boys here, or does Slayer have a song named that as well?

Beastie Boys. King played the solo, and I think even the rythm parts, (solo for sure though) if I'm not mistaken.

Now that is some funny shizznit! Yeah I don't dig Vernon on that song, and actually can't think of a solo of his that I can even remember liking.

Was only being judgemental on the solo as I stated, not the entire song. I used to play it in highschool, so it was fine by me at least at one point in my life, but even then I knew that solo sucked major ass. :gethim:

As for kerrys's solo on fight for your right, I think some are missing the point. It's purposely done that way. He also played on no sleep till Brooklyn and the off key feedback sounds demonic and unlike anything at that time. Rick rubin hooked the beasties up with Kerry as he did both bands.

ronnie letekro is/was a total hack
kerry king is up there for sure
lots of death metal guys are awful

Yeah I'm gonna disagree. Even Kerry admitted he didn't know really WTF he was doing back then. If I don't "get" his playing on those tunes, then I'm glad I'm dense/not deep/blinded/wutever lol! ;)

I will admit many of the other songs mentioned in this thread are in contention (it dates me when I tell you that my some of my first attempts at playing electric were a Hondo tele copy into a Peavey Backstage 20 trying to learn FFYRTP - which was on the charts at the time). However, as this thread was opening, I heard "Keep On Rocking in the Free World" going through my head...

Ya, King is terrible. Every solo he or the other guy in Slayer plays should be looked at as how to not play guitar imo. Not a shred on musicality.
