I contacted the seller and sent him this, "how much does the amp really cost?" This morning he contacted me and said the amp sold. I asked for how much. this was his response: GUESS WHO BOUGHT MY AMP??? He said Van Halen contacted him and paid him 10 grand for it!!! He must be a little crazy. Who knows, maybe I am the crazy one for not believing him and EVH really contacted him and paid him 10 grand for it? Naaahhhhhhhhh!!!

That's going to make it awfully awkward when it goes up for sale again.

I had a Rockstah Mod 5. Great sounding amp, but there's tons of great sounding amps out there.

I'm still working on it, but getting the swing and phrasing right is way more important to coping the EVH vibe than the amp or guitar.
Yes

We (as players) need to understand that we sound like what we sound like...through any amp.
I tried to cop some VH vibe in this vid...but it sounds like me, trying to cop VH....it's just what we are.
Seems strange to me to try to be somebody else.
I actually prefer Randy Rhoads as far as playing style.

Love the Randy live solo lick at the end.. that was from Tribute wasn't it? How do you find the badcat? I like the fact that you can add effects to an amp with no loop. Awesome feature. Your amp sounds totally bitchin by the way!

The amp is still forsale and was not bought by EVH lol not that there was a doubt there. I contacted this guy for kicks and WOW, dude is really messed up, I think he might be insane, not even sure if he even owns this amp. Here are some of the messages I received from him complete with spelling and grammar. I think he may have some mental delays.

I dig the Unleash. The fact you don't need to mod a good old amp to put in a loop is worth it alone.
Thanks, I'm really happy with the Fargen...glad I took a chance on it.

The master on the amp was on full, but the Unleash brought it down to a quiet late night jamming volume.

Not sure what's goofier: if the guy is serious he's nuts..or if he thinks it's fun trolling the internet he's nuts wasting his time like that.

If you already had that amp how much would just the mod itself cost?
I have a Metro 12xxx with Mod5, bought it used for $1100.

About $30 to $40 in parts, and a half hour to do the work.
A little more time if you actually reduce the filtering (which he didn't bother with many times) as his original did, but otherwise 100% accurate…

Steve

If you do this mod to a 12000 series spec amp, no filtering changes will be needed, and it is very quick and cheap. I found a consistency to the parts as well, with very inconsequential slight variations, but to the person who doesn't know how to build, it makes them feel good to think their amp is magically unique.

Mark multitracked his guitar tracks. There's nothing wrong with that. Ed at least double tracked. Many people do this. It makes the recorded amp tone sound huge. Just copy you guitar track, and paste it into 3 other spots, then only add effects to one of them. You'll see what I mean immediately.

Having a mixer that has SM57 friendly mic pres is a must. My SoundCraft mixer is awesome. Mark had a Digi .02, and he used protools. NorthernAsh Strat with Super Distortion. But he sounded good with the Red Fiesta Mexican Alder Strat with Darkburst Pickup before as well.

The guy could make anything sound good. Phenominal player.

You could have all his gear, but if you don't have the hands, it won't sound the same.

It's a fun spec. It's even more fun with a reasonance mod added. Like the Thump Mod from the Atomica.

Yes, definitely, and I also have seen (and heard Mark record through) mods of his that had higher filtering that he didn't bother to change and they didn't sound different the way he records them.

I always double track rhythm guitars, however, I don't think the copying and moving tracks thing works very well. I've tried it and it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as actually recording multiple takes on different tracks. It is the (hopefully) small nuances between the takes that makes that huge sound...

Steve

Check YouTube for Rockstah playing a Metro 12,000 Plexi, pre- Mod5.

Nope, the copy paste/move thing is useless in my opinion. At least to my ears, the magic of multitracking is in the very slight variations of the performance. For things like needing a specialized effect that requires a destructive edit yeah, copy and paste away, but that's not multitracking and in my opinion, neither is copying and pasting.

Oh and mightymike, Ed was multitracking his rhythms on the early albums? Perhaps there were some rare cases of it, but there's no way he was multitracking on the first few albums as a matter of practice. I'm open to being proven wrong, but I just don't hear it.
