You be the judge: How messed up is this guitar I just bought

new neck from caparison would be cheaper than getting it fixed.

that is something i'd send back to the factory, I wouldn't trust some random shop to manage this.

Here is what I would do...

Take the neck off, and see if there is some kind of shim in the pocket, causing the neck angle to be so far back that the trem needs to be so high.
With a recessed Floyd, it should sit WAY lower. Bet there's a shim for some reason.

Also, what gauge strings are you using?

man that sucks, hope you can get it sorted with the seller or reverb.........the only way that is fixable is to remove the fretboard and probably replace the truss rod (not the hardest job in the world but not your problem really)

As someone that has worked on a TON of Caparisons, that is not normal. I feel like this seller probably was one of those guys that thought he new what he was doing, fucked the neck, lifted the trem to compensate and then tried to pawn it off on someone else. Glad you are getting your refund.

Thanks man, I thought I was going crazy.  I see this guy is in the Caparison Owners Group.. I originally posted there and then immediately deleted it when I thought to look him up. Now idk if I should warn others if he tries to put it online there?

Reverb was actually spectacular with their support. They sent me a return label, I'm not sure if Reverb paid for shipping or if the seller did. I shipped the guitar back Monday, it arrived Tuesday afternoon... Tuesday night I received a return / e-check on paypal for the exact amount I spent.

Before I even shipped I called Reverb and talked to the Rep, she was really understanding. She said as soon as they showed the evidence of the guitar being messed up, the seller fess'd up and said he'd refund me. I was worried he would try to claim I messed the guitar up or shipping wasn't good enough and not refund me. She told me to take videos of the boxing, and assured me that if he did not refund they would work with Paypal and get my money back. Guess it helps that I have solid 100% 5 Star reviews and he has... None. This was his first transaction with reverb. :aww:

I don't work with Caparison anymore, but if you see it in there let me know, I am still an admin.

So Glad Reverb helped you man. What a scary situation. I hate that feeling, only takes one moron and you get scammed. Really glad to hear they had your back, ebay probably would have told you it was pretty and the case was closed.

Every time I setup a guitar (I do it alot, but just not often) I need to get my notes out regarding the truss rod direction....

Looking at your video and the instructions - they say to loosen, turn as shown per B and that's the opposite direction you are going.

So - are those instructions wrong?

Just wondering if this guitar has some different truss rod system?

Perhaps just go the other direction a slight amount, then back off again. I agree you clearly relaxed the tension but something just seems really odd.

Also, this is a minor detail but you should have a notched straight edge that makes contact with the actual neck and not frets (not that I think the frets are the problem)
