You guys use the tone knob on your guitar much??

Not usually, except for my Rics. Most modern Rics have a 5th knob called "the fifth knob" that can be used with the volume and tone knobs as:

1) a bass pickup volume equalizer (uh, that's a neck pickup for those who don't speak Ric)
2) as a set position tone blend
3) as an equalization control

see: http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/manual.pdf

I usually use option #3.

 on Rics. on anything else

On an LP or super strat I prefer to have the bridge tone pot disconected.

On an LP, especially with 70's T-top's, I love the neck pu with the tone knob down 1/2 way or so with high gain. Sounds really sweet - think Sykes "Is this love" solo tone.

Not a lot. But it's good to have. I'll use it to tame my bridge pup when I split to a single.

It's good to reset your ears when tweaking too, to get perspective on your highs. I'll roll back and play for a few, and then roll back on to see how shreiking the treble is.

I turn it up all the way and then back about 1 or 2 notches . But so, not really, I just dont use it completely open, it's on like 8.

yeah, that's what I'm doing - it's pretty subtle, but cool

of course I use it....

In my John mayer strat, I use the second tone knob a lot...because it controls pos. 3,4,5. When I go to the neck single c. It's always too bright, so the second tone knob is set at 8 or so. The first tone knob is mostly at 10, but from time to time I roll back to 7 or 6 and get a warm finger tone

In my EMG loaded Strat, I use it a lot. while I'm using the 85 hb in the neck I roll the tone all the way down to 0 and gets me a very "neck pup" tone....

On my explorer I rarely touch it, it's alway set to 10

and my 335 Lucille, I use it too a lot

its a wonderful feature when playing clean mostly for me, but depends on what sound i'm going after..

+1

Clean stuff can get too "funky" with some amps. The tone knob's a useful way of taming that.

on two of my guitars the tone knobs are push/pulls for coil splitting. does that count too? :aww: :D

I use the tone knob on my LP bridge pup to take a little of the edge off.

I also use the tone knob on my Morse Y2D but not as a tone knob. I had it rewired to act as a graduated coil splitter. As I turn that tone knob down it gradually shuts off one of the coils in the neck pup. When the knob is full off the neck pup is completely split and becomes a single coil. When the knob is full on the neck pup is a humbucker. The cool thing is being able to get all those tones between full off an full on.

Here's a cool link with lots of wiring ideas including the variable coil tap:

I use the tone and volume knob on my guitar a ton.

It's a must for me since I mainly use a P90 loaded guitar for gigging. I can get single coil spank and smoother double coil tones with gain this way.
Usually as I increase the gain (volume knob) I decrease the tone knob...usually.

yeah, that's what I'm doing too - I'm using some Dimarzio Virtual Vintages and hooked the tone knob up to the bridge in a strat - one of my vv's is supposed to be like a P90 - probably not as cool, but close.

On the tele I do...it's a necessary evil. Other guitars, rarely ever.
Yup, same here. I've found great tones with the tele using the tone knob.

Never. High gain gets too muddy for me... I even don't use the neck pickup much, except for some clean interludes. Though I could imagine that somebody who plays cleaner jazz/fusion has more use for a Tone knob.

I never used mine much until I learned about higher quality pots. Now I use them all the time. I've played very few guitars that had stock tone or even volumes that were useful.

On a three singlecoil Strat I`d use it, but since mine has a humbucker, I rarely do. On the neck PU of the ESP, sometimes, to get the "woman" tone.

most of mine don't have a tone pot.

+1.

I think I just used it on my SG for the neck pup, in order to attempt to get a smooth tone...
