I started off with 9-46's because of Dimebag. I'm now using 10-52's. Both on guitars with a 24.75 scale and in E standard, I also switched from ernie balls to d'addario nyxl.

I used to tune to B standard with 13-56 D'addarios with the wound G. Now I am down to A standard using StringJoys 12-64. I don't think I'll be changing from the joys anytime soon.

E Balls were the cheapest which is why every kid i knew used them

i still keep a smattering of 9/11/15 EB singles ,which just made me wonder what Stringjoy would charge for such a backup set of strings?

EB for me. I have one guitar that likes boomers better. It's a very scooped guitar, heavy in the lows and zingy in the highs, so the boomers round-cores seem to add more midrange content vs any of the standard hex-core models.

On one of my old Carvin 25" scale I use the ultra slinky 10-48 at Eb. Gives that guitar a bit more thump which it needs.

Played many brands over the years.
Some are really expensive but don't last. I guess I arrived on EB's because they are cheap but still sound good.
I get packs of 3 on eBay for $21 bux a pop..

A combination of either D'Addario 11-56 or 10-52 in both Drop D standard and Drop C# with both 24.75 & 25.50 guitars.

I've gone up in gauge but still use the same 2 tunings for years now.

Tried other strings and tunings but I never liked the feel or sound of anything else as much.

I started with GHS, but they had a few QC issues in the late 80s. I had no better luck with Ernie Ball, and then switched D’Addarrio. Never had any issues, they were competitively priced, readily available, and here we are thirty-five years later still using them. I feel no desire to try alternatives, now deal with redoing setups.

I’m also locked in on Charmin Ultra Soft if you give .

I have those on my Fret-King currently; wanted less tension on the guitar and they certainly do the trick!

I just buy whatever is the better deal, sometimes d'addario and sometimes Ernie ball. One of those two brands usually, but sometimes DR's as well.

I've certainly played loads of other ones, but I'll just stick to the ones that were my "go to" for extended periods.

- D'addario XL Nickel - They were everywhere and sounded good, but I moved on because they started breaking regularly on me
- DR Tite Fit & Pure Blues - I dug them at the time quite a bit. A bit rougher on the fingers and not as bright as the XL's, but they lasted longer and the tone didn't change as much as they got older. I only changed at the time because I found Snake Oil strings.
- Snake Oil - I loved these, but they got impossible to get ahold of. I believe he eventually stopped making them altogether.
- DR Tite Fits & Pure Blues - After Snake Oil went mia, I went back to these. However, after a while something changed with the DR's. I found they didn't intonate as well and they didn't hold tuning as stable either, so I moved on.
- EB Slinky - Where I lived at the time they were cheap and easy to find. For some reason these alway went dead pretty quick for me, so I eventually moved on.
- D'Addario XL Nickel - Came full circle lol. No issue with these after coming back. I only changed because I prefer the NYXL.
- D'Addario NYXL - These are the most stable and longest lasting string I've used outside of the Snake Oil Strings. I've been really happy with these. Perhaps a little thinner sounding than the XL, but the pros out weight that for me.

I'm pretty basic regarding gauges. For E standard, I've always been a 10-46 guy regardless of whether it's 24.75" or 25.5" scale. For D standard, I prefer 11-50 or 52, and for drop C I use 11-52 or 54. I went through a spell for a few years when I was using various 12 sets for D standard and drop C; however, I eventually settled on basic 11 sets with just a heaver low E.

I used Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys since the late 70s up to a few years ago. Along the way, there were a few variations. I favored the EB Rock n Roll Pure Nickels for a while and I used PRS branded strings on my PRS Custom 22.

About 3 years ago I had a hankering to try D'Addario NYXLs and fell in love with them. Louder, brighter and a unique midrange. They get in tune almost immediately, stay in tune, I have yet to break one and they stay fresh across multiple gigs. I am a convert!
