Cant get my dual rectifier to work

Just got it in the mail and im not getting any sound. I DONT have a cabinet, and it DOESNT have a footswitch. It powers on, but seems to be stuck on channel 2. Not sure how to switch without a footswitch. Heres a pic of what the back looks like

Dude do NOT turn that thing on without a cabinet plugged in, or you can/will fry it!!!!!!!!
 
You can switch channels without a foot switch on the back of the amp. But make sure you have a cab hooked up to take the load off or your will mess it up bad. :thumbsup:
 
For the love of god read the manual. You really don't know not to turn it on with no cabinet plugged into it? Download the manual from Mesa web site, they have them all there and easy to download and print. There is a manual control knob on rear panel to change the channels without the footswitch for the channel switching. But READ THE MANUAL. How in the hell would you get a sound without a cabinet? Speakers ya know, you need them, they are the things that actually make the sound. Sorry to sound harsh here but you really can't be this clueless, really?

Brotha, I literally got the thing 5 minutes ago and DIDNT wanna fuck it up, why do you think im posting? I have a marshall and it worked fine without the cabinet. I found the channel switcher, but like I said there is no sound bro. So how the hell am I supposed to know if its working if the damn thing was shipped to me broken??

I dunno, I cant get any sound out of it... I shoulda got something. Theres a clipping sound, but dunno. Thought you can run a direct line out to your computer. I didnt turn it on very long and I made sure all the dials were down all the way
 
Please explain how you get a sound without a speaker cab? You may have already fucked it up sorry to say, maybe not but you need to download the manual and do some reading as it seems you don't have an understanding of some very basic things about tube amps. The manual explain a lot of general stuff you need to know and does it pretty well, such as NEVER run an amplifier with no load i.e no speakers hooked up to it or you'll blow the output transformer and possibly more. I am still wondering how you expect it to make a sound without a speaker? Yes you can take a line out if it has one to a computer/powered speakers but that will still blow it up as the amp is not seeing a speaker load and it will fry the transformer. You need to self educate a little (or more) here, you are way behind the basic understanding you need to use one of these. Good luck. If you ran it without a load and the person you bought it from sees that your done as far as returning it if it doesn't work at this point. If you ran a marshall this way...well I don't know what to say about that. Again, do a little research and reading about tube amp basics. Always need to have a speaker hooked up (and use speaker cable, not an instrument cable.
 
It's a tube amplifier.

Anytime the amplifier is off standby you should have a load plugged in. Whether it be a resistive load, reactive load, or speaker load, you had better have a load on it. Transformers are tough cookies but you're doing exactly what they were not designed to do. If you've cooked the OT the same day you purchased it you're down $250 in iron + labor to install it + all shipping costs not covered under warranty + still needing a load not do it again.

It sounds like you have been doing this before without a load. If that is true you've put those amplifiers at risk as well.

What you're trying to do is either connect a THD hotplate and source your line out signal from there, or run the hotplate but source your line out from the preamp only.
 
First, everyone's right you NEED a load on your speaker out.
Second, even with it your slave out will sound like clipping unless you have it running through a speaker simulation of some kind.

Basically you should stop what you're doing and buy a cabinet.

I think he is referring to the Marshal he had being a combo amp. He is probably used to that so he was expecting the same with the Mesa.

The clicking sound is your output transformer about to open a winding.

Direct line out? Of course I have a basic fucking understanding, I never owner one before. And no it was a half stack. And dude, this is QUITE a lot different that "Hey ma, the car has no engine in it..."
 
I know everyone is ragging on you, but I personally won't even plug a tube amp in without a load on it. For the most people a "load" will be a speaker plugged into one of the speaker jacks. I'm assuming that your Marshall was either a combo amp or a solid state amp......... You can just run the line out of your Mesa straight into a computer. I think there is even a risk of frying your computer by running the effects loop out straight into a sound card, because there is a fairly lot signal coming out of it.

For the time being, leave your amp sitting in a corner until you get a proper speaker cabinet for it. Then just mic the cabinet to record. If this doesn't work for you, then you need to have someone make sure you haven't ruined the head, and then sell it to someone else, because that means you have no use for a 100 watt tube head. They are for playing live with a real drummer and bassist. They weren't designed to be used as a POD for home recordings.......

Are you guys here to pass judgment at my expense or is someone gonna actually help me out? I assumed you could go from a direct line out. So it had a load hooked up, the output went to my computer. Ive never understood ohms. I know to match impedences, but my rec has got 2 fuckin 8 ohm jacks, so yeah IM FUCKING CONFUSED

Are you saying that you flicked the power-switch on, but kept the standby switch off, and ran a direct line from the pre-amp out to your interface so you could use the pre-amp w/ impulses and listening for sound through your monitors?
If not, then.....+1 to everything mentioned above!!

Your communication skills need work in any case.
 
NO, actually you don't have a basic understanding or you wouldn't be doing what your doing. Get the manual at Mesa boogie.com and read it. You might actually learn something.
