To go along with Ralph's Ronni Le Tekro clip from this morning, here's mine. This is just a first attempt. Ronni has always had one of my favorite tones and I don't think I did it justice here but if you can, give me some suggestions for getting it closer. At some points it sounds like I have a wah wah in a fixed position like Schenker, but I don't. Also the Boss OD-1 is pretty scratchy. I think if I had a vintage Roland Tape Echo in line after it like Ronni that it might smooth that out a little.

Anyway, I'd like to use the standard Rig Talk disclaimer: Tons of mistakes, I don't know the riffs exactly, I'm just screwing around etc etc.

And here's Ralph's thread:

Yours sounds closer than Ralph's, IMO. Ronni is definitely using something to add depth, though. I'm not sure if it's the echo you mentioned or some studio reverb, but that's about the only thing missing, IMO. Sounds great.

Ronnie's tone to me sounds very rack. Like ADA meets microcab. At least for 10,000 lovers. But you guys would know more than I would. Have you tried the Xotic EP-3?

Yeah that sounds close to me. It's got that low end quack to it more like Ronnie's tone. Ralph's good too but the low end isn't as defined and too smooth IMO......

Awesome work Curt!!!

Between your clip and Ralph's clip, that tone is NAILED as far as im concerned

Nice

Between this and Ralphs clips make me want to give it a whirl lol.

I have some of the gear that might help get close...

2203x
MIJ 1985 BF-2
MIJ 1985 OD-2
412 with H30/Greenbacks

The OD-2 with the turbo mode in the "off" position is supposed to be just like the original OD-1 circuitry but not sure how close it actually is. I got it from the first or second year of production in the mid 80's.

Should I try it?

Sounds great Curt! Sounds really aggressive.

I just posted a backing track for this tune. Would love to hear it with your guitars over it.

Very cool of you to do that!

So the gloves are off, east coast vs west coast :gethim: Sounds great Curt, I agree that yours sounds more throaty while Ralph needs to re-eq his a tad but the tone is there!

This is awesome !! Im literally pissing my pants

My take is that I hear qualities of Ronnies tone in both my clip and Curts. I think Mine sounds very close when it goes in to the "A" power chord but the low end is definitely off because Im using the wrong guitar and pickups. I get closer to that tone with my alder strat but its not tuned to e-flat, so I had to use my ash strat and that definitely throwing off teh low end!
I think Curt has that dialed in perfectly. There is also a bubbly sound that Ronni gets on the attack that Im hearing on mine sometimes. Im going to give it another try!!
Ill also learn the tune before I play it :hys:

gibson5413, You are the man!!

I've been trying to dial that tone in with the Axe-FX Ultra...so far I'm close but not there. Anybody nailed it yet?

Both clips sound great BTW  They may not nail it exactly but definitely close enough for rock and roll...an audience wouldn't be able to discern any difference.

Slap some 6550's in that amp and you'll be there.....the midrange quality is definately there, but I hear that gritty thing you are talking about. This isn't quite as open or solid in the low end.

I'm no expert on Le Tekro's tone, but I definitely like aspects of both Curt and Ralphie's tones in attempting to clone it...

Cool Shtuff!

Steve
