I saw the Cult again last night. I'm reminded again that although he's no shredder, he's no virtuoso, but he's a solid as fuck rock'n'roll machine!

He consistently pumps out tasty licks all night, never overdoing it, never showing off. He's also a master of the wah pedal, using it liberally, but tastefully.

I don't think he gets the credit he deserves.

I'd have to put Billy up in my top 5 favorite guitar players ever.

I have been a big fan ever since Electric came out in 87. I was a kid and I could play along with that stuff and the sings were great. Billy writes great tunes and has always been cool as hell. White Falcon is awesome too. So badass. One day I will get one hahah. Totally agree with OP.

Saw The Cult open for Metallica on one of the early legs of the Black Album Tour ...

Total professionals .... great straight up sounding hard rock band!!

Love Billy; great tones, tasteful playing and a killer rock and roll presence. I really enjoy the first few albums that have a very post-punk gothy feel.

Their post 2000 output is great as well and Beyond Good and Evil is one of the best hard rock albums of the past 20+ years.

There are times when I am done playing guitar and want to relax in the backyard I will put on The Cult. Because when it comes down to it it's all about tone and riffs... I try and see them whenever they play in San Diego.

I think the same about Choice of Weapon and Hidden City. Both albums seemed to fly under the radar and get virtually no recognition at all, but they are both killer albums with a ton of great material on them.

Electric, Sonic temple, Straight up rock. I saw them open for Metallica too AJFA :)
Hmmmm now I think I'm getting my tours messed up ... I saw them 3 times on AJFA tour .... they didn't use a opener on the black album tour I don't think...
Queensryche was a opener too I believe

Classic riffs and great song writer. Very tasty player. Nothing flashy but hits the mark.

No..no.no and no.
Back in the day?
Oh yeah, Rain, Nirvana..
‘Love Removal Machine- I heard
Keef’ Richards was not psyched about this riff,
It started him up…. and Keef’ buried a freshly lit Marlboro Red cigarette
into Billy’s Margarita bowl
at the MTV Video Music Awards..
Good for you Keefer’ -Dead rip off man.
Here’s the f’n 411:
Go f’n listen to that guys leads, particularly many of his phrases & ending phrases.
Just jibberish crap.

HEAVY on the drums production as always giving The Cult a very danceable/club beat kinda flavor of the vibes..
I know, I know the She Sells Santuary riff..
Wildflower..
Aphrodisiac Jacket..
-Peace was a dirty word??
Open-F-sharp-Open-B power chord ..
Kurdt’ did that one way better with
“You Know You’re Right”
Ian Astbury took a wrong turn and kept on going man…he was cool doin’
Jim Morrison with a British accent tho’👍

I hope you dudes have been playing your amps instead of talking about them,
-looks to be the case..LTFOL dudes!!

Actually that's a good comparison buddy! Keith Richards and Mr. Duffy! Two rythm masters who lightly dabble into leads.

Billy is freakin rad. Love his Gretsch sig but he's got some sweet fiddles other than that. Fire Woman gets me jacked to the tits every time I hear it.

That is high praise coming from you. I think as he is a perfect fit for that band in every way and absolutely great . That said you are a much more enjoyable guitarist for me to listen to.
