Welp, I'm a PRS convert now

Yes, they say it's the pattern regular, which is PRS more "classic" Fender Strat C shape but it does not play/feel like it IMO

Especially higher up on the neck its thicker and more substantial, which makes it much more "solid" feeling for someone with big hands like me, without actually being larger like the pattern vintage size necks

It's the best "best of both worlds" strat style neck I've ever played. I generally freaking hate strat/superstrat necks - they drive me nuts, especially the wizard and esp U types.

The super light weight is incredible feelwise, especially as a potential gigging guitar. It doesn't feel "cheap" or insubstantial - it's balanced well enough to feel "correct" even though they get down to the mid to low 6s weightwise.

I don't give a shit about Lettieri, or that style of music btw

I just think it's a really great guitar with some really awesome features, and if I had the cash i'd be all over it - they have a couple at one of my local mom and pop shops and they lasted less than a week before people snagged them up

Did you play the single coil model or the dual humbucker?

Both, they had one of each. They both sounded awesome. I would lean the HSS one if you wanted like a super versatile "do anything" gig guitar, or the HH version if you're more of a shredder and already have other strats.

The fiore pickups sounded great IMO, and I am one of the pickiest RTers about pickups

The humbuckers have a relatively smooth top end though, so I could imagine if you got the HH version you might feel tempted to put something more aggressive in there. With the HSS version they are so well balanced between the singles and the humbucker I see zero reason to replace the pickups

If this was ten or fifteen years ago I'd agree but PRS has kind of become as ubiquitous as Fender or Gibson minus the shit quality control. :ROFLMAO:

The weirdest thing is that in 2026, Gibson has improved its quality control massively and Fender is the one with thousands of dogshit guitars, especially the import "fender standard" ones - I've seen some really rough ones

I would agree. Gibson has been pretty decent the past few years I think. My ES is a 2024 and is flawless for the most part. I tried several others that were also basically flawless but were pretty flat sounding though that's not really related to QC. I don't think I'll ever purchase another Fender guitar again tbh.

It's really weird though, because both companies reputations were the opposite for many years, at least since the 2000s

But gibson since after COVID has really stepped up their game, and fender has really dropped the ball, and it's strange because it's the last thing you would have expected

PRS has always had great QC - yes, things slip through the cracks like any company, but man I repair and mod people's guitars every day, and the number of actual lemons they have produced is so low I can think of each specific guitar

I'm trying to decide what the next guitar will be. A PRS of some sort....kinda torn between the SE 24-08, the SE 594, and the SE Hollowbody II. They all seem to have elements I like but none seems to have all the elements I like so I been leaning towards the 24-08 even though I'm an F-hole guy, lol. Any opinions?

If it was me? You already have a couple hollow bodies, hmm

I would say the 2408 if you wanted a trem and the 594 if you want a fixed bridge

They both seem like they cover area you already have covered though IYKWIM

I like the shorter scale and the TOM style bridge. Less of a fan of fat necks but depends on how fat. Never laid hands on a 594 so I was unsure on that. The one thing I didn't like about my LP copy was the pickup selector location. Not that it's a problem but it always threw me off at jams and stuff when I am so used to the 335 location. I liked the Custom 24 I brought home but would rather have a 3 way and mini toggles vs the 5 way and goofy pull-pots. The trem seemed fine, I never use them anyways....just kinda unsure but was leaning towards the 24-08. I probably need to lay some hands on the other two first, I dunno.

Laying hands is always the answer, of course

But with PRS you can always get an idea of what the neck is like from their spec lists. "Pattern vintage" is like a slightly thinner version of the gibson 50s fat baseball bat thing, pattern regular is like the standard stratocaster C shape

If you like the thinner necks, look for "pattern thin" on the spec sheet. It's their version of like a "wide thin" 60s gibson IIRC

Get a 513 so you have allllllll the tonal options

I liked the wide-thin neck quite a bit, just wasn't sure how much fatter the wide-fat is. Checking their site it doesn't really appear all that much fatter than the wide-thin. Maybe I can find a couple to handle down in New Braunfels this year. Last time it was all wide-thin and older used Custom 22's.

I know this is pure heresy but I did try one of these just for shits and giggles and it seemed packed with potential. It actually took me by surprise. The blades were pretty badass tbh.
