Yep the 85/15 was the first time i played a prs with stock pickups and got the "wow! I wouldn't even replace these!"
Say what u will about the finish but i wish i had been able to keep this axe. 85/15's!

That's a beautiful finish. It reminds me of a time when I was in my Vaan R5 at the 35th parallel of the Pacific Ocean. It was a beautiful, sunny day with some freshly caught fish on the grill and a fine bottle of wine.

Have you played a Fiore?

I freaking hate superstrats, as I'm sure everyone on RT knows

But I played a black fiore that was one of the nicest freaking guitars I have ever played, and i've played a ton of them
Never tried the Fiore. I can’t stand a volume knob that close to the pickup. I’m sure I could move it and just have a hole there and it’ll play great.

I've seen where other people have swapped the rotary to a toggle. If I end up changing pups, I may do that. Maybe I can try a Screamin' Demon again, as I'm a fan these days of medium outputs, though I am a DiMarzio guy at heart.

Very doable. Its McCarty switching. Usually has a push pull tone knob too. PRS sells the prewired harness if you dont want to solder it all yourself.

They're supposed to be the HFS Vintage and HFS Treble unless they've been changed.
It's HFS (which stands for "Hot Fat Screams") and VB ("Vintage Bass"). Earlier models would be Standard Treble and Bass, which I personally prefer.

The rotary switch is a little odd, but badass in practice. You don't have to manipulate two (or more) controls to get to various sounds the way you do with most split-coil configs, and everything is hum canceling.

It's really a well though-out system.

For PRS in my experience the bolt-on models have always been better than the set-neck ones, I still should get one at some point but just have never bothered.

"What are stereotypical blanket statements for $500 Alex" ?

Ya, that volume knob placement does not work for me either. That is the only thing keeping me from a Fiore though; they are fantastic!

Ive had 2 SE Tremonti's & one single-cut gold top. Fine guitars for the money.
Ive been told PRS has / is re-vamping the Indo-made SE line including increasing the price.
They will be over a grand nao.

I was never a PRS guy myself. Always found them to be nice guitars, but just thought of them as overpriced fancy tops that no one seemed to play.

Then I stumbled across this ce24 for under $1k and thought it was a low enough price point to give them a real chance. A decade later it’s still one of my favorites.

They can honestly be a legit value, if you get lucky or find one with a few little dings & scratches.

Tell me about the necks on those. I've heard it's a C shape but feels more like a slight V?

The double humbucker ones look amazing, and the weight of some them down at 6.5 pounds is insane.

Yes, they say it's the pattern regular, which is PRS more "classic" Fender Strat C shape but it does not play/feel like it IMO

Especially higher up on the neck its thicker and more substantial, which makes it much more "solid" feeling for someone with big hands like me, without actually being larger like the pattern vintage size necks

It's the best "best of both worlds" strat style neck I've ever played. I generally freaking hate strat/superstrat necks - they drive me nuts, especially the wizard and esp U types.

The super light weight is incredible feelwise, especially as a potential gigging guitar. It doesn't feel "cheap" or insubstantial - it's balanced well enough to feel "correct" even though they get down to the mid to low 6s weightwise.

I don't give a shit about Lettieri, or that style of music btw

I just think it's a really great guitar with some really awesome features, and if I had the cash i'd be all over it - they have a couple at one of my local mom and pop shops and they lasted less than a week before people snagged them up

I don't listen to the guitarist whose name is on these models. They are two of the best playing strats I have personally played. Changed the pickups on the grey one to Brickhouse Toneworks 63s. Stock pickups aren't bad either.
