Wow...it sounds so much like the recorded VH tone it's just not funny.

You are seriously THE KING of creating VH inspired amps.

thanks! :)

thank you for not using a floyd

but the dimarzio....i'm gonna have to pass. never will i put another dimarzio in a guitar unless it's the hs-2 i already own in a strat middle position for the middle/bridge ej tone.

but the clip is killer!
I've come to the conclusion that its silly to rule out any pickup brand or model. Seeing as every guitar is different and your overall tone is created by the interaction of all of its components, what doesn't work in one (or many) situations doesn't mean it won't work well in another.
Two examples that come to mind for me are the Dimarzio Super Distortion and Tone Zone. A friend recently dropped a Dimarzio SD in his PRS SC245 and I teased him unmercifully...until I fired it up. I have never cared for that pickup but it was perfect in this guitar...I was left scratching my head and apologizing for the hard time I gave him. A few years back I had the same experience with the Tone Zone. I bought an old Charvel mutt that had one in it which I planned to replace. When the guitar arrived, I was surprised at how good it sounded...I had never cared for that pickup before. I still decided that I'd go with my old standby Duncan Custom...it came back out the same day and the TZ went back in and its still there.

BTW, great sounding amp! Darren was right on with his asessment (VHII is my favorite Ed tone as well).
I have several guitars with Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups. That pickup is great for the early VH tones...

As muc EVH and his sound was the full on catalyst for pushing to buy a guitar in the first place, I never had any interest in getting his sound.

That said, I think it sounds great but its like a more polite/refined version of EVH if that makes any sense. Theres a certain edge or rawness that I hear from EVH that isnt in your clip. Its not a big dela because the edge that Im referring to is a really subtle thing and for all I know that has more to do with the hands than the amp..

Does that make sense? In the end, its damn impressive.

you should mod an amp for Eddie.

You and RalleP both are running the Super D... and you guys are the closest tones to that classic sound that I have heard... tells me something, aside from you both have amp skills and the playing skills, the ceramic magnet seems to be part of the puzzle. I remember Ed having a melted looking cream Super Distortion in the Franky for awhile too...

yeah i saw that ralle is using one also. something about a ceramic magnet for sure!

dude that sounds so killer, i dig that guitar too! how does the DSD differ from the duncan 78' ?

That is a killer tone! I dig the mutt parts guitar as well. BTW, what are the speakers you are using?

VERY NICE! Great tone. Great chops.

The only thing that I found myself missing was you playing "Mean Streets". Whenever I'm demo'ing gear or getting ready for sound check and get it in my mind that I want to do the EVH thing, I instantly start playing the verse, chorus, and solo intro to that tune.

Also, how's the sponginess when doing a drop-D thing like "Unchained"? I was always impressed with Victor's clip of that tune when demo'ing his Peacemaker head.

Thanks!

the 78 is thin and low output compared to it. its missing low mids and has way less gain compared to the DSD.

i've been through the super distortion (had it in two guitars before i pulled it and gave it away to a friend) tone zone, and currently have the hs-2 and virtual vintage. played through bunches of them.

it's strictly a matter of personal preference, just like the floyd, and every dimarzio has a bright peak that may sound great to a microphone but nasty to my ear. the only reason i can stand the hs-2 is because i only use it with another pickup, a duncan.
not every duncan is great but i prefer them overall. and boutiques.

i had a parker fly with dimarzios..hated it/the worst tone! at this point i'm so over them that even if they made the best pickup on earth now i couldn't care less. done.

i have played that whole riff to mean street in some of my clips.... looking for it now. here is one that i found ( didn't play all of it ) on a 100w reissue i modified. https://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... D=10800192

and here at the end on this 50w!! :) -

in the future ill do Unchained as well. ;)

Do you have any clips of a 1984 type tone. (please, not Panama   ) Would be interested if it can do that cleaner sound he gets on that record. It still bites but has that extra jangle factor that sounds so good.
