Has anyone happened to play a Wizard and Friedman 4x12 with same speaker setup (im probably going to do a greenback/v30 mix but interested in hearing comparisons between the two cabs loaded with any identical speakers)?

im assuming they would sound pretty similar with the same speakers?

I own both. Side by side but with different speakers. They are pretty much the same cab. Both made by Boutique Amps Distribution.

I've played the friedman it sounds great, the wizard looks the same. If your wanting the the gb/v30 mix just do the Friedman since that's the way it comes.

BTW I have the gb/v30 mix in my bogner 4x12, and it's stellar.

The cab is made different then mine. Just saying.

any ideas how those differences might translate to how they sound different, dave?

Wizard cabs are made on an entirely different line than the friedmans, they have different construction altogether.

I’ve had both cabs at the same time with same GB/v30 combo. Friedman wins. Just sounds fuller and tighter. Friedmans are seriously hard to beat.

-yeah, like back in the day when there were several "DAVE's" posting here regularly, being the Cab~Freak I am,... I hope Dave F. has the time to expand on the WIZARD & FRIEDMAN cab differences.

Curious too. Buying cabs is a mess. You get so little technical details besides the speakers from the cab vendors. Buying cabs is really try and error.

Is it "mad" different or "made" different? Not sure if that was a typo. If "mad" is correct then I don't see the major difference - physically at least. I own both and they are sitting right next to each other. Aside from cosmetics and the set up of the input jacks on the back, you'd be hard-pressed to tell them apart. If it is "made" different, then that could be the case with different wood, grill cloth, etc.. To me, having both side by side, there really isn't much discernible difference. While I have different speakers in my wizard cabs (alnico cream/creamback h75 and my friedman cab (scumback m75/h75), they aren't drastically far apart tonally, at least to my ears. Most non-guitar nerds would probably not know the difference at least. lol Maybe I need to load the alnico cream/creambacks from one of my Wizard cabs to do a proper side-by-side comparison with the same speakers. Either way, both cabs are great and you can't go wrong with either.

I think he meant 'made' different (ie specs different)...

You find the wizard as 'full' and deep sounding as your Friedman?

One other thing to keep in mind...cabinets, like guitars are made of wood. Some pieces of wood resonate better/different frequencies than others...even if the same specs. So Friedman cab "1" might sound slightly different than Friedman cab "2". Same with the Wizards.
Out of 10 random cabs, you might even find a regular Marshall 1960 MDF back cab that sounds deeper/fuller than the cabs discussed here.
So I always find it tough to claim a Winner in these comparisons, but they are all awesome. Cant go wrong with either of them!

Yes. They both sound/feel similar to me - albeit there are slight differences due to different speakers.

Definitely agree with this. Though I find where it's placed in the room or whether or not casters are on/off has a bigger difference relative to manufacturing tolerances.

My Friedman and Wizard cabs don't have casters and I find the low-end needs to be tamed - especially since my cabs are up against the wall and in a corner. This past weekend, I elevated one of my Wizard cabs and compared it directly to my other identically loaded Wizard cab and I definitely preferred the tone the cab that was on the platform - all else being equal. I'm probably going to install casters on my cabs as a result.

Matt... Get the casters. I just put them on mine and its a good thing. No more low-end taming needed.

When I went to casters I had to get used to the loss of bottom end.. not sure which I prefer. I think those great gramma platforms might be a great middle ground based on the videos Ive seen...

Yeah... they Auralux Gramma might be the best of both. I do like the mobility with the wheels though.

Ah, could really be “made” not “mad”. Makes more sense to me. And thanks for the info on your experience with both! Still would like to get more info on cabs from the vendors (in general). So many variables (front load, thickness of wood, type of wood, grill cloth, additional struts, how are they ported if, size etc.) impacting the tone. We get so much more info on amps from vendors. But cabs is always just speakers.
(And i have some hughely different sounding cabs with the same speakers, so cabs can make a difference)
