5150 tube suggestions wanted

Did you try adding the resistor and cut one leg of the cap?

I like Winged C 6L6's and chinese preamp tubes. People also like RFT's as well.

Good thread timing - looking at retubbing mine.

I think i have only had JJ 6L6's as that what was recomened over and over.

Might go with your suggestion.

Anything else you can tell me?

Have done many bias mods on these and use SED 6L6GCs or, believe it or not, Sovtek 6L6WXT+, they sound awesome in the amp. Best way I have ever gotten rid of the fizz is by placing a NOS Philips 12AX7A in the V3 position. Helped tremendously. Also, these amps really don't sound that great at anything more than 60% of max dissipation so keep that in mind when biasing. I always bias these by ear anyway when I do the mod for people. Seems like around 30-32mA is a sweet spot. Dials the low end back a tad and tightens up the amp, IME.
