These are my EVH WGs.

I used to have a WG Custom (the one with 4 knobs), too, but traded it away like a dummy.

Buy the one @RedPlated has in the classifieds for more than 50% off and it has SS frets.

I'd rather buy a cheap one and hot rod it. But even the cheap ones are pretty good.
 
I believe the $5999 prices are "Custom Shop". I still see the USA plain colors $3800-$4500. That's still pretty steep though.
 
I bought a cheap WG special about 10 yrs ago, I think it was $500, at the GC. There was a hairline crack in the headstock. I eventually got it replaced through a connection at Fender. I sent the whole thing out to Pat Wilkins and had him repaint it in seafoam. I may have had $1000 into that guitar when it was all done and I'd put that up against any of those expensive WGs.

I've thought about buying a standard to see how it compares to my USAs.

Even the new MIJ with the kill switch already installed is pretty nice looking, too.
 
I bought a matte black Standard a few years ago, I think $450 new. That guitar was almost as loud unplugged as an acoustic guitar. Such a great quality instrument for the money.
