Awesome. I played heavy stuff as a younger fella, and that comes with a skill set that is surprisingly useful in other aspects of playing. Plus, it’s still fun have a ‘chug renaissance’ when the mood strikes haha.I only have blues gear.
Not looking to buy a triple rec although I'd love one.
Sooo what pedal choices do i have going through fender type cleaner amps.
I got the heavy strings in drop C.
Got the wrist action and muting tight
Now need the dirt
As far as tones/distortion etc, I’m sure you have somewhat of a sound in your head which probably has multiple paths to get in the ballpark of mainly with the gear you have.
I only mention this because, I have to remind myself every now and then that the music that is the heaviest and most evil to me isn’t super gained out (ballpark of early slayer). So if you use that as a launching point, you can get pretty damn heavy based on how/what you play.
I also don’t discourage you from looking for options that will get you in that modern high gain ball park, if that’s what you’re after. Too many good options that are cost effective to not expand just a bit to accomplish what you want.
Without knowing specifically what your after, if I wanted to spend a little $$$ for a crushing high gain option I’d bee looking at:
Synergy w/ Fortin Module
Or a newish EVH 5150 iii, or even another iteration going all the way back to Peavy.
Recto’s seem to be getting a lot more available for decent prices lately, but that would not be my first choice.
It’s not the preferred way, but if you already have tube amps that can do a good pushed or even crunchy clean, distortion pedals out nowadays can make you sound way more like the real deal than makes sense LOL.
Up to you and your wallet. If I was planning on a significant project (band, album, etc) that required modern high gain, I’d definitely consider high dollar amps.
But, I’d take a player that knows what they’re doing with a 5150, or even a pedal platform with carefully chosen dirt pedals, over a less nuances player (me for the first 15 years I played haha) with some hyped up expensive amp.
Last, don’t forget how important speakers/cabs are on overall sound once you are knocking on the door of what your after.
Probably all stuff you know to well, but I still need to remind myself what really makes good tone when I’m hunting something off my normal path.
