Awesome thread!

To jerry, it's just a guitar amp. To the OP, it's HIS guitar amp and his hard earned money.

Well said. That's the problem right there, isn't it?

I know 2 guys locally that have had no issues with their FJA modded amps but I didnt ask how long it took either.

Good luck with this guy OP....hope you get your amp back and it works out for you. Surprised there isn't more being said on here about this. This is the exact reason amp modders can have such bad reputations. Elitist attitudes when none is warranted and being rude and acting like they are doing their customers a favor by working on their amps. BS

I sent a guitar back to John Suhr once because there was an issue with the neck pickup being weak on the high strings. The man called me himself, talked about what he was going to do, made suggestions on what he would like to do such as upgrading the bridge free, upgraded the bridge pickup for free (something I asked for and was ready to pay for no problem), and fixed the issue with the neck pickup replacing it as well. Had the guitar back inside of 3 weeks also no charge. Now that is how you treat a customer. Anyone who says I will not contact you, there is no need to update you (why because you cant write a 20 second email or are too lazy?) is not someone I would ever send my amp to regardless of the results of his mods. Good luck

I sent an old OD100 to Suhr to have it converted to a PT100. Chris Justice emailed me a few times and called me to talk options to make sure I got what I wanted. They had the PT100 back to me in three weeks. Price was good and service great.

Really sad to see this go down.

For years I've heard great things about his knowledge and work.

I've emailed Jerry numerous times and always received fast detailed responses. I was just asking questions too - I didn't have an amp with him waiting to be modded.

I'm very surprised to see this behaviour.

The behavior itself is one thing and bad enough when the OP was just asking the rest of us what would be normal expected turn time, but then to post the response he did (FJA) which IMO was just a big FU, well that's another thing altogether. If we don't like his way take our amps elsewhere.....OK, Cool,,,thanks for the warning, got it.

Jerry's a good guy, honest and dependable. Perhaps a phone call would have been better. Good luck with your amp though. If I was Jerry, I would send it back in a couple of sandwich bags.

It is clear that there are conflicting experiences. Maybe you had 1-2 personal dealings that went well, but that doesn't translate to this failed interaction.
So if you're selling a product/service>customer pays>10 weeks go by... you as the merchant would be annoyed at having to produce the item and/or reply with a respectful update of some sort? And then to show who's in charge you would ship it in "sandwich bags"? You do realize that the OP never named names, but FJA outed himself in this thread in what appears to be a uncomplimentary episode of anger. Too much snow & leaky roof seem to be the cause of the flareup, not an actual customer who was excited to get an update.

Huh. Didn't get your coffee again I see....

Amps probably setting in a puddle of water under the leaky roof now.

So I'm the "bad guy" and should be punished? Interesting....

Man...some people just REALLY don't want their business to do well do they? Read that jackwagon's FAQ on his website too...you can just feel the douchebag oozing through your screen.

I've been dealing with jerry since 2003, never had an issue with him or his amps. We have done many many custom projects together.

There are plenty of other guys who mod amps on this board that take quite a while for mods also. Well known guys mind you..... I think a phone call would have been Better then trying to air it out here... To late now.

In the past when I needed an amp for a recording session or tour by a certain time or date , I would let jerry know ahead of time and he always made it happen for me.

He is one guy , not a company full of guys like suhr or others , you are paying for his experience and him to work on the amp , and him alone.... not someone else. It takes time to do these things , it's not McDonald's.

Also, his prices are very reasonable, you don't have to be a rockstar to afford some work from Jerry.

Lastly , he isn't going to rip you off and steal your money and amp, he isn't Mark Cameron, you will get your amp.

That's just my 2 cents ...

I never said I thought he was going to rip me off. I simply asked for a time frame. I got tired of being ignored so I asked for other opinions. I asked Jerry to return my amp if he hadn't started on it and got cursed out. He could have told me that this mod would take a few months or several months to do and I would have fine. I also didn't ask for an exect date. You can defend him all you want. I was treated wrong and it seems many others were too. I also said that I know he has made a lot of people happy, but I am not. Before this happened I never heard of anybody having a hard time with Jerry.

To be a successful business in this day and age, you need to provide an excellent service or product, AND excellent customer service. Sweetwater.com comes to mind as a great example of how to do it.

Funny how the you failed to mention how you started emailing me for updates before the amp even arrived here! I don't give regular updates and you knew that up front. I'm one man working alone and there's just no time or reason for that.

Also left out the fact it's a JCM800 Bass amp and it requires replacing damn near every part on the circuit board, many pots, adding filter caps, yet you are still paying the standard mod price with no extra charges for that. It's not a small job.
I am totally up front that there are no promises on turnaround times. If I got it done quick and it wasn't right you'd be on here bitching about that too! As I said in the email, it's not you fucking left lung, it's a guitar amp. Settle down and let me do my job.

I have 5-8 foot piles of snow all around my front yard and water leaking from my roof. I did have to move my shop also which required some construction delays. As I said in the email I know these aren't your problems, but I was upfront with the fact that things change here all the time and that is why I make no promise on turnaround times. Sorry life trumps a guitar amp.

In the end your amp will get done. To those that don't like my business practices please feel free to go elsewhere, Dyer needs the work, send it to him. I'm sure bionicmark can suggest someone, he's tried us all.
Jerry

[sarcasm]Wow. What a well thought out and professional response.[/sarcasm]

Thanks for posting this. Good way to reduce business, I guess. With less customers perhaps you can actually take the time to provide proper service to the customers who still choose to send their amps to you.

Jerrys a good guy I had a pleasant experience with him.my amp came out excellent no complaints.Hate to see things like this go down especially on a forum its just bad mojo for everybody
