Well all, it’s been quite some time since my last installment in this famed series. I wanted to come back with a bang, so today we’re going to be packing the meanest, loudest and most bone-shattering amp on the planet: the revered Cameron CCV-100 tube head.
Let’s get things started by taking a critical look at the condition of the CCV, prior to shipment. Note that I included the Tuesday, May 29, 2012 issue of the Toronto Star in every photograph, for evidence of which day the photos were taken on…..
First line of defense?.....Large bubblewrap. This will help to ensure that there's no tolex damage during shipment…..
Then, I placed a few labels on the bubblewrap, just to keep track of which side is which…..
Time to build the inner box. I started with a box measuring 48” x 15” x15”, which was way too big…..
Once I had one end of the box built and taped, it was time to re-size the box to measure 30” x 15” x 15”…..
Can’t forget to cut the new end flaps!
So, here’s what the box will look like, assembled…..
But before we can go any further, it’s time to open her up again, just like a suitcase! Thank God for the trusty box cutter…..
And then, it was time to start lining all of the inside walls of the box. All but one side was lined with 2” thick styrofoam insulation; the right side of the box got a 1” styrofoam lining
The CCV was getting anxious, so it was time to tuck her into her seat…..
And maybe a few packing peanuts, just for the corners and edges…..
…..before putting in place the styrofoam lid.
Time to seal up the inner box!
Now that the inner box was largely ready to go, it was time to work on the outer box. The box I purchased measured 48” x 22” x 24”…..
…..and that was just too big! As such, I re-sized it to measure 34” x 22” x 24”…..
And here’s a shot of the two boxes huddled together…..
Now that the outer box was built, it was time to line it as well. Every inside edge received 1” of dense styrofoam insulation…..
…..and then 1.5” of packing peanuts were spread across the bottom of the box (in order to offer added 'cushion' to the side of the amp that only got 1" of styrofoam within the inner box)…..
It was time to put the inner box into the outer box. First though, I needed to add some final labeling to the inner box…..
And then the CCV’s power cord was taped to the outside edge of the top of the inner box…..
…..before she was lowered into her resting place!
Packing peanuts were then tightly packed around the entire inner box…..
The final layer of dense styrofoam insulation was put in place…..
…..before the outer box was sealed up for it’s journey.....
.....including all necessary labels.
There! All packed up and ready to rock the next owner’s world!
She shipped out early this afternoon, Rudy! Further details to follow via PM.
