Well all, it’s been quite some time since my last installment in this famed series. I wanted to come back with a bang, so today we’re going to be packing the meanest, loudest and most bone-shattering amp on the planet: the revered Cameron CCV-100 tube head.

Let’s get things started by taking a critical look at the condition of the CCV, prior to shipment. Note that I included the Tuesday, May 29, 2012 issue of the Toronto Star in every photograph, for evidence of which day the photos were taken on…..

IMG-20120529-00136a.jpg

First line of defense?.....Large bubblewrap. This will help to ensure that there's no tolex damage during shipment…..

IMG-20120530-00144.jpg

Then, I placed a few labels on the bubblewrap, just to keep track of which side is which…..

IMG-20120530-00146.jpg

Time to build the inner box. I started with a box measuring 48” x 15” x15”, which was way too big…..

IMG-20120529-00109a.jpg

IMG-20120529-00111.jpg

IMG-20120529-00113.jpg

Once I had one end of the box built and taped, it was time to re-size the box to measure 30” x 15” x 15”…..

IMG-20120529-00114.jpg

IMG-20120529-00115.jpg

Can’t forget to cut the new end flaps!

IMG-20120529-00118.jpg

IMG-20120529-00121.jpg

So, here’s what the box will look like, assembled…..

IMG-20120529-00120.jpg

But before we can go any further, it’s time to open her up again, just like a suitcase! Thank God for the trusty box cutter…..

IMG-20120529-00124.jpg

IMG-20120529-00126.jpg

And then, it was time to start lining all of the inside walls of the box. All but one side was lined with 2” thick styrofoam insulation; the right side of the box got a 1” styrofoam lining

IMG-20120529-00128.jpg

IMG-20120529-00130.jpg

IMG-20120530-00154a.jpg

The CCV was getting anxious, so it was time to tuck her into her seat…..

IMG-20120530-00156.jpg

And maybe a few packing peanuts, just for the corners and edges…..

IMG-20120530-00158.jpg

…..before putting in place the styrofoam lid.

IMG-20120530-00160.jpg

Time to seal up the inner box!

IMG-20120530-00163.jpg

Now that the inner box was largely ready to go, it was time to work on the outer box. The box I purchased measured 48” x 22” x 24”…..

IMG-20120530-00165.jpg

…..and that was just too big! As such, I re-sized it to measure 34” x 22” x 24”…..

IMG-20120530-00166.jpg

And here’s a shot of the two boxes huddled together…..

IMG-20120531-00175.jpg

Now that the outer box was built, it was time to line it as well. Every inside edge received 1” of dense styrofoam insulation…..

IMG-20120530-00168.jpg

IMG-20120531-00172.jpg

IMG-20120531-00173a.jpg

…..and then 1.5” of packing peanuts were spread across the bottom of the box (in order to offer added 'cushion' to the side of the amp that only got 1" of styrofoam within the inner box)…..

IMG-20120531-00182.jpg

It was time to put the inner box into the outer box. First though, I needed to add some final labeling to the inner box…..

IMG-20120531-00177.jpg

IMG-20120531-00178.jpg

And then the CCV’s power cord was taped to the outside edge of the top of the inner box…..

IMG-20120531-00179.jpg

…..before she was lowered into her resting place!

IMG-20120531-00184.jpg

Packing peanuts were then tightly packed around the entire inner box…..

IMG-20120531-00186.jpg

IMG-20120531-00189.jpg

IMG-20120531-00192.jpg

The final layer of dense styrofoam insulation was put in place…..

IMG-20120531-00194.jpg

…..before the outer box was sealed up for it’s journey.....

IMG-20120531-00195.jpg

.....including all necessary labels.

There! All packed up and ready to rock the next owner’s world!

She shipped out early this afternoon, Rudy! Further details to follow via PM.

:rawk:

Holy CRAP! That is the best pack job I have ever seen!!

And I have had ALOT of amps on my front porch. :D
:2thumbsup:

I wish this amp safe travels, but....

  Play nice now, Gary! ;)

I'm sure it will arrive safely. Let's just hope this doesn't happen after it's been removed from the packaging!

:hys:

Did I miss the part where you pulled the tubes and wrapped them separately?

No, as I don't typically do that unless the buyer specifically requests it. I have never received a new amp from a manufacturer with the tubes pulled, and this pack job is about 10 times better than any pack I've ever received from a manufacturer.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander!

Good work... You did all you could other than drive it to the guy yourself.

Packing like this is extremely expensive.... do you just eat the costs?

Yes, I cover the packing materials out of my own pocket everytime.

This pack was about $115 in materials.....

Boxes $35
Styrofoam $45
Bubblewrap $8
Peanuts $15
Tape $12

BTW: I agree it's extremely expensive, but so are the amps I buy/sell. And, even more annoying than this expense is the headache and time required to try to settle a claim with the courier companies. I'll avoid THAT nonsense at almost ANY cost!

Nice job! Not the worst thing in life, but I find it very annoying when the seller pulls the tubes before shipping.
