Another LP Replica NGD

So what differs these from an actual Gibson? I've read on this thread only an idiot would mistake them for one and have read elsewhere that knowledgable people wouldn't mistake them. And I don't mean what differs them from current models as I've read old growth wood, craftsmanship, etc. I mean in 30 years from now are people going to be able to tell that these aren't actual late '50s Gibsons?

Yup, same way people do now. Pull the pups, look for the markings, all repro parts, etc.....

There's no way anyone in the market for an actual burst is ever going to be fooled into thinking this is a Gibson, man. People that spend between $300k and $1,000,000 on a guitar know what they're looking at.

The hardware is different, the pickups are different, the serial numbers aren't concurrent as a lot of people that get these done use a 'serial number' that's important to them personally, like a wife's bday or whatever....not to mention the fact that most of the builders won't do that; they won't copy an existing serial number either, AFAIK. No one is trying to make an actual copy to sell as what it's replicating...

I was really just curious. Wasn't trying to say anyone was trying to rip anyone off. I knew the hardware would be different. Just didn't know if the serial numbers were "replicated" too or if they personalized them or signed stuff in the cavities.

Wasn't saying you were, was just trying to answer your question, really.

Yeah, the old stuff goes for big money these days...original PAFs can fetch up to $5k by themselves, and even the plastics are worth money. Pup rings can go for over a grand, etc...so there's not really any way that people are going to be fooled. But this is as close as you can get to a '59 burst without actually buying one. The Gibsons that are supposed to fill this niche like the R9s and the True Historics are worlds apart from these guitars.

I'll be dead ass honest & say I'm not sure how I feel IF a builder puts Gibson on the headstock.
Takes away nothing from a stellar piece of work.

Hell I suppose I do it all the time in the custom car & motorcycle biz when I do a project & put a badge on the hood or tank. I'm not representing it as a Chevy (or whatever) since there's maybe a handful of parts out of thousands that are from GM

Most guys that are into Bursts could tell that one, and most other 'replicas' aren't real Bursts from fifty to a hundred yards away. Most people that don't know Bursts, but want to purchase one, pay about 5K to have one authenticated by those that do know what they are, and aren't,

My serial is my birthdate and month. There was never an actual '59 LP produced with that serial number...

One of mine has my birthdate as the serial # (the Keebler I got years ago). Then I bought my buddy's (RIP Dave Venanzi) 59 Junior from his wife. The replica I just got is the serial # right after the 59 Jr. so I'm not sure if that's one already taken by a real burst or not. But the authenticators I asked said that bursts and juniors had serial #'s 1000's of numbers apart so I doubt it.

Les Paul's and replica's sure stir people up don't they?

I've got nothing to add except, looks nice man, congrats on the new guitar.

Agreed. I'd rather pay for a replica than the crap Gibson is producing. I'm jonsing for a LP and I'm looking at FGN and Edwards LP's.
For 1/4 the price of an equally equipped and ornamented Gibson, I can get something far superior than anything they are producing in recent years. I could give two shits if it says Gibson on the headstock or not. The fit and Finish on Modern Gibsons is DEPLORABLE.

I have a replica and another on the way some time next year. For the money, I really don't think anything compares to what Tokai (Japan) is putting out these days. Fit, finish, hardware, electronics, etc... everything is just superior. I would gladly own another one.
